of the time, and while it‘s a fine lens, the barrel distortion at the
Wide angle end is quite noticeable. When I first used the Uptica|
Lens Correction filter in (152, I was amazed. One simple slider
adjustment and the distortion was fixed. The lens correction
palette also has tools to correct problems such aslens vignetting,
perspective correction and chromatic aberration. This tool has
kn" ‘7‘9 made my desire to get a new lens seem less pressing.
One other tool, actually from Photoshop CS, that I use a lot is the
shadow-highlight adjustment tool. The highlight slider works on
the tones higher than RGBIZB only, while the shadow sliderworks
on those below RGBlZB. It's a great tool to expose a bit more detail
in the shadows without losing the highlights.

sive packages like Photoshop Elements 3 and Corel [Jasc] Paint Shop Pro
9 are also improving with each revision, make the decision to pay the
extra freight for C52 more difficult. Choice can be a wonderful thing.

system that kept us on track. Equipped with a large colour LCD
screen built into the centre dash, the navigation system allows you
to plot a course by entering in the destination street address and
city, and track your vehicle's location and direction on a dynamic
"moving map" while providing on-screen and voice-generated direc‑
tions on where and when to turn. This last feature was a godsend on
those times when we went off course in Portsmouth due to road
work: The navigation computer guided us patiently through a series
of tortuous twists and turns, getting us free of a rundown urban area
that can charitably be described as“bleak."

The Aircard allowed us to

network. However, some‑
times our Iaptop's WiFi
transmitter logged itself
onto someone’s unprotect‑
edwireless network; appar‑
ently out of a desire to surf
at broadband speeds.
To help manage our email,
we used the new WordPerfect MAIL program, which interfaces nicely
with WordPerfect Office 12. It provided a lot of email management
tools, while staging under the radar of viruses aimed at Microsoft
Outlook.
Supplementing all ofthis capability was my trusty Rogers Wireless
BlackBerry 6280: It did triple duty as a cellular phone, email device,
and wireless Web browser. For additional connectivity, I took along a
Rogers‘ Nokia 6620 cell phone with digital camera and MP3 playback; A S K FOR SAFE POWER
a Fido Nokia 6620 handset which matches the 6620's capabilities
and adds 3 4X zoom lens; and 3 Rogers' Nokia 6820 with digital cam‑
