Flexible work pattern is a method to reduce the number of core staff and employing more part-time

workers to help business reduce labor costs. Part-time employees work fewer hours than full-time
employees and it’s likely that they will be working temporarily. And by initiating flexible work patterns,
McDonalds will face few likely consequences with workforce planning, recruitment, and training.

Flexible work pattern has positive impacts on the workforce planning. Working in McDonalds is a job
where there are lots of redundancy in work. This can make the employees bored and make them lose
motivation. By using flexible work patterns, the employees don’t have to work for the whole day
repeating the same work every day. However McDonalds should try to use promotion and bonuses to
encourage employees as part time jobs at McDonalds have low salary.

In the other hand, flexible work pattern will not affect recruitment of McDonalds. Since McDonalds
already hires part-time workers, there won’t be any vast difference in the consequences of shifting to
flexible work patterns. In fact, McDonalds already encourages flexible work patters according to the case
study. However McDonalds should go through careful considerations in recruiting employees who have
good competence and are a good match to the job.

Flexible work patterns can also impact the consequences of training in McDonald’s to a certain degree
because the firms don’t need to invest as much in training except core staff. Also because the
instructions for fast food is quite self-learnable. It doesn’t require professional training. The ingredients
are also already prepared, so if the employees know how to use those ingredients it will be fine.
However the training should also be done thoroughly due to emergency situations such as fire outbreak.

The likely consequences of flexible work patterns on the workforce planning, recruitment and training of
McDonalds was that it was advantageous because McDonalds is a fast food chain therefore they don’t
need much training, not much change in workforce planning, and recruitment. However I would suggest
McDonalds to still care about the motivation of the employees and make them feel comfortable at work.
