The story, Pliant Like a Bamboo depicts the personality of Filipinos.

History has proven

that Filipinos are adaptive no matter what circumstances they are in. We have been colonized
and ruled over by foreigners yet as a people we emerged triumphant.

Like the bamboo, Filipinos know how to deal with harsh realities of life. As a people, we
are resilient. We are able to bounce back and are able to cope with any situation we are in. Like
the bamboo, we do not show our might by going against the tide but we show our strength
through resiliency amidst adversity. Filipinos do not easily break no matter how we are bent. We
sway with the wind and our strength resists forced bending. I believe that problems are part of
life. There are times that we become so stressed because of the problems we face. But if try to be
like the bamboo who is flexible, then life becomes easier. Filipinos can adjust to changing
situations as well as can deal with different personalities. Filipinos are found in every place in
the world because they can easily learn different languages and adjust to the cultures in every
country that they go to. Like for instance, the problem on corona virus has shaken every person
in our country. We are suddenly thrown into a world where movement seemed to stop because
we are confined in our homes for a month. It may be boring because you have only the walls in
your house to move around. However, these enhance community quarantine provide us
realizations which make us a better person. How we deal with COVID 19 reflects our flexibility
as a people, like the bamboo tree. The Bayanihan Act 2020, We Heal as One shows how we are
as a people. Like the bamboo, we are stronger when we are united, when we are together. As for
a bamboo, it doesn't grow alone or very separately with others. A new shoot rises from one
bamboo and grow very close to each other. This is very Filipino in us. We have closely knit
families.

Indeed, the story, Pliant Like a Bamboo provides a general picture of us, Filipinos. We
are Filipinos and as Filipinos, we are flexible and resilient. We are able to withstand pressures
and adversities for we do not oppose the forces but go smoothly with the force. That is the
Filipino in us. Adversities come and go and we are able to overcome them.
