CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR
DESCRIPTION
Centrifugal Compressors are used commonly in most process where gaseous fluids need to be
transported within process and also for pressure related processes. Centrifugal Compressors come
in various sizes and models but the fundamentals that drive the process of compression are the
same. Therefore it is important that those who work with such equipment have basic
understanding of the compression process and also good working knowledge of the equipment.
Regardless of years of plant operating experience, it is not a surprise to know that most operators
and engineers do not have good grasp of the equipment and how the selection and design
considerations are made during compressor selection for process operation. This training provides
both fundamental knowledge about Centrifugal Compressors, and typical design steps involved in
selecting and sizing a Centrifugal Compressor for a given condition.

relates to process environment
 Able to select Centrifugal Compressor for new process hydraulics and understand compressor
process datasheet
 Understand the compressor datasheet and Performance Curve and its limitations

SPEAKER
Vigneswaran Kumaran is a Bachelor of
Engineering (Chemical) graduate from
University Malaya, has a Masters in Energy
Studies from University of Melbourne and is
a certified trainer with Human Resource
Development Fund, Malaysia. He has 18
years of experience in petrochemical process
operations and has served Petronas as a
process plant operator and technology
specialist while also providing technical
consultancy and process technology and
equipment trainings for industry patrons.

International Inc. and as process advisor for
HMC Polymers, Thailand. His specializations
include catalytic dehydrogenation /
hydrogenation, plant construction, pre-
commissioning and commissioning, training,
operations and process technology related
tasks and has been providing numerous
process operation trainings in the field.
Furthermore, Vigneswaran is a certified
Neuro Linguistic Programming Master
Practitioner, a Time Line Therapy Master
