English Instructor interview questions

Introduce Yourself
Well my name is Asmaa Elsayed. I am 22 years old. I live in
Cairo. I have a Bachelor's degree in English language and
literature from faculty of arts, class 2020. I started working for
an international nursery a month ago. knowledgeable in teaching
ESL methods and class room activating techniques.
Conducted individualized and group tutoring for ESL students
to help them improve the four areas of language learning:
Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening.

Let me highlight my responsibilities in my current job:

Introduced interactive activities into the classroom and

encourage students to vocalize their concerns and questions.

Encouraged creativity in students by organizing art and craft

projects on a daily basis.

Taught letter recognition, phonics, numbers, and awareness of

nature and science.

Managed student behavior in the classroom by invoking

approved disciplinary procedures.
Used games, music, artwork.
2- What's your Teaching Style?
I would say I’m strict but fair when it comes to teaching. I
believe when students are challenged with realistic goals and
given the support, they need not to just get the answers right but
to be able to use those learnings to solve future problems on
their own, everyone comes out on top. I also think that as a
teacher, it’s my job to support my students through the lessons I
give, but also through the various challenges they may face at
school, and to partner with them as well as other support
systems to help them feel motivated, comfortable, and happy in
the classroom.

3- What kinds of qualities do students look for in teachers?

I think that students look for passion and credibility and can
easily see when one or both are present or absent. Teachers have
different styles, but the passion and drive of a teacher is
essential. Teaching is a difficult job, but it is also one of the
most important. Students need to know that you are working
hard, expect them to do the same, and will grade them fairly
while guiding them through the critical thinking process.

4- What’s the best way to teach English?

If you’re asked this question during your interview, there’s a

good chance that you’re being asked a trick question.

That’s because there is no “best way” to teach English. People

learn differently and what works for one student might not be
the best approach for another. For this reason, you shouldn’t
answer this question by talking about specific teaching methods
like drilling vocabulary or reading and writing.

Instead, answer the question by saying the best way to teach

English is to create a number of different activities to appeal to
various types of learning styles. That way, everyone can
understand and enjoy your lessons.

5- What are some successful teaching methods you use?

6- What personality traits do teachers need to be successful?

I think that teachers need to have patience, flexibility, and self-

discipline to be successful. Teaching can be difficult and
frustrating, but it is extremely rewarding and it takes a certain
type of individual to excel. Teachers have to consider state/local
testing objectives when creating lesson plans while making sure
that students are able to master the subject material beyond what
is going to be on a test. Students also have different methods of
learning and a teacher must be able to adapt their lessons to
ensure that all students are engaged and able to learn the
material.
7- How do you handle a problem in the classroom?
If the student did something confused in the classroom, I would
discuss his misbehavior privately and guide him with the right
behavior next time.

8- What are your qualifications?

- Excellent English pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar
skills.
- Keep up to date with the latest methods and theories for
English teachers.
- Confidence and skills to give motivating and interesting
lessons to the students.
- Teaching phonics for kids and phonetics for adult.
- Starting a TEFL course this month which will help me
improving teaching techniques and new teaching methods.

9- Why do you think students need to learn English?

For example, traveling abroad becomes much easier once you’re
able to speak English since it’s a global language. There might
be situations where hotels, airports or tourist attractions don’t
have a native language.

Furthermore, knowing English opens up a world of

opportunities, including international jobs and degree programs
that require English proficiency.

10- How do you motivate students?

Positive is super important to keep a student motivated, so I like
to throw out rewards or bonuses when they perform especially
well. This could be candy, or a star, or even just a compliment.

And I always try to be fair and consistent with everyone.
