Historical person I admire the most

Albin Kurti is a Kosovo politician and activist who served as the fourth Prime
Minister of Kosovo from 3 February 2020 until 3 June 2020. Kurti is also the leader of
the political movement Vetëvendosje (Self-Determination). He first became known in
1997 as a main organizer of students’ demonstrations in 1997 and 1998 against
Serbian regime in Kosovo.
There are a lot of reasons why I picked him as a person I admire the most; the
main one is persistence. He’s been in opposition for almost 20 years and although he
had many difficulties he never gave up on his goal. He started his movement with a few
people and today his movement is about to win an election with the highest vote
percentage in our country’s history.
Back in the times when he was starting his activism, many of his friends were
joining the international organizations for a good salary and a peaceful life, instead he
chose to show integrity, a decision that put him in prison several times.
Furthermore, when he was a Prime Minister of Kosovo, he reduced his salary
and other ministers salaries. Unlike other famous politicians, he is not rich and he is
living in a small apartment. In these difficult times because of the Corona pandemics he
set aside half of his deputy salary for people who were unable to provide food for their
families.
Now, some of you may argue that this is what politicians do, simple tricks to get
votes but let me remind you that a few years ago when his movement had only a few
members and no support whatsoever, Kurti sold his house and used the money to help
finance his organization.
I admire him because all the things he’s done, he did them for his country, and
after all these years he is still fighting and he continues to give our people hope for a
better future.
