To whom it may concern

My name is Artemis Sartzetaki and I would like to be admitted to the Costume Design
Department of the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts via the Erasmus exchange
program. I have always had an affinity for presentation whether it be through make up
or the construction of costume pieces and would love to have the opportunity to learn as
much as a semester’s worth of classes can teach me.

I was born in Canada and I have spent most of my life in Greece, where I was
educated. More specifically, I am currently a third-year student at A.S.F.A (Athens
School of Fine Arts). Prior to this I completed the IBDP at Anatolia College in
Thessaloniki. Due to my stay in Canada, as well as my bilingual education in Greece I
am fluent in both Greek and English.

I have chosen the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp for my Erasmus exchange
since the costume design programme as well as the entirety of the Arts Department
have an excellent reputation. In addition, the city of Antwerp hosts a vibrant
contemporary Art scene and a plethora of renowned museums and galleries making it a
great space for a student to explore. The Royal Academy of Fine arts of Antwerp is
renowned for its fashion and costume design departments as well as its history in the
performing Arts. Your practices are up to date and your teaching methods are
acclaimed.

I have always been fascinated by the power of a garment and how it can drastically alter
one's presence. The process of researching designing and finally executing a look have
always excited me both in the practical constructive aspects of garment making, but
also in the significance of each choice made in the design. Having dabbled with butoh
dance and performance in general, I would like to see the history that costumes have
played in the performing arts.

Due to my background in sculpture, I have a history with mixed media and would like to
approach costume making through such a lense while also learning more traditional
practices in costume making. I would like to see the way you approach costume design
in your university as I predict it is very different from everything I have done so far.

I believe that the experience that I could gain by studying in Belgium would be valuable
both for my studies and my personal development. Thank you for your attention. I am
looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely ,
Artemis Sartzetaki.
