CHEG 3161: BASIC ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING PROJECT

______________________________________________________________

1. General Direction:

This course requires the students to undertake a major project task utilizing the

knowledge gained from the chemical engineering course. This comprises the design

of an equipment to control environmental pollutant and more specifically to treat

polluted water or air. This course ensure that the students bring together all of

the undergraduate knowledge and skills imparted in earlier years of the degree

program. Team work is emphasized throughput to mimic the typical team

environment the students will encounter in the work place.

This Basic Environmental Engineering project work is designed as open-ended so

that students will be able to do the following tasks on their own.

 Collection of design data (pollution data, environmental standards,

thermodynamic data and etc.

 Process technology survey and latest technology features

 Process and Construction design features.

 Areas of industrial application, operation details and etc.

2. Project Contents
A single air pollution control equipment design project will be assigned to a group of
8 students and need to have the following contents for the final design report. The
evaluation of the project work will have a weight of 30% from overall course
assessment.

1. Introduction (Backgrounds, Application area, Types and features, Working

Principles (pollutant removal mechanism), Advantages and Operational
limitations, Design Features, Design data sources)

2. Process Design details (Design equations and correlations, Process design

requirements, Design Calculations and Interpretation)

3. Construction Details (Material of Construction, Construction Features,

Design calculations)

4. Conclusion (Highlights of design limitation, Reliability of data used for design

calculation, summary)

5. References.
