variables
P-pressure
T-temperature
XB-mass fraction of benzene
XT– mass fraction of toluene
PsatB- saturated pressure of benzene
PsatT- saturated pressure of toluene
Mathematical model
XBPsatB+ XT PsatT=P substitute XB=1-XT,
(1- XT )PsatB+PsatT*XT=P
PsatB- XT PsatB+PsatT*XT=P
XT PsatT-PsatB*XT=P-PsatB
XT(PsatT-PsatB)=P-PsatB
XT=P-PsatB/PsatT-PsatB
Where the partial pressure are computed as
PsatB=10^(6.905- 1211/(T+221))
Cont………
PsatT=10^(6.905-1344/(T+219))
The solution then consists of maximizing XT by varying T
subject to the constraint that 0≤XT≤1
From Antoine equation =A-B/(C+T)
For toluene A=6.905,B= 1344,C=219
For benzene A=6.905,B=1211,C=221
Excel Solver
4.1.
Result
The number of unknown variables is to large, so we guess the temperature
value and solved the other parameters.
Highest purity of toluene is separated when saturated pressure of toluene
equals to the pressure of flash tank. Then the excel solver can be used to
obtain T=116.839659.
XT is the objective function
PsatB=1953.707226
PsatT=800.0005166
XT=1
Pcal=800
