MODULE AIMS, ASSESSMENT AND SUPPORT


Aims This module aims to:

 Deepen the theoretical and philosophical debates around


animation and sequential moving imagery as well as CGI

innovations and develop an awareness of these debates in
relationship to your own work and practices.

 Develop your capability to select appropriate material, and


carry out sustained research.

 Promote analytical, logical, lateral thinking and further


develop your ability to conduct an academically rigorous
discussion.
Learning outcomes On successful completion of the module you will be able to:

1.  Demonstrate an understanding of the relationship


between animation and sequential moving imagery and the
various technical, social, cultural and historical
circumstances that impact upon its’ inception.

2. Apply knowledge to synthesise new ideas and debates


around craft and design in relation to your own work.

3. Demonstrate sustained analytical, logical, lateral thinking


and conduct an academically rigorous discussion.

Group seminars will examine strategies for researching,
structuring and producing written work.

Tutorials with verbal feedback, which is to be recorded by you in


the appropriate manner e.g. journal or notebook.

Non-Contact:
Use a range of research methods to explore subject related and
wider themes.

Development of skills for argument and reasoning .


Research and extended essay writing.

Formative assessment will take place third way through the


module in the form of a 1000 word essay draft which will include
an overview, chapter headings and bibliography, worked on
during non-contact time. You will receive written feedback that
will be un-graded.

Where 10 credits = 100 learning hours hours
SCHEDULED This is an indication of the number of hours students can expect to 20
spend in scheduled teaching activities including lectures, seminars,
tutorials, project supervision, demonstrations, practical classes and
workshops, supervised time in workshops/ studios, fieldwork, and
external visits.

GUIDED INDEPENDENT All students are expected to undertake guided independent study, 180
which includes wider reading/ practice, follow-up work, the
STUDY completion of assessment tasks, and revisions.

PLACEMENT The placement is a specific type of learning away from the University.
It includes work-based learning and study that occurs overseas.
