Foreword

Part 101. Sampling fresh concrete on site

1. Scope
This Part of this British Standard describes methods to be
used on site for obtaining from a batch of fresh concrete
representative samples of the quantity required for carrying
out the tests and making test specimens in accordance with
other Parts of this British Standard together with a .
procedure for determining sampling errors using cube
compressive strength t e s t results. The methods specified
apply t o concrete made with aggregate having a nominal
maximum size of no more than 40 mm and are suitable
for very low, low, medium and high workability concretes
up to a workability represe.nted by 150 mm,nominal slump. 125

6!4 Assessment. If the estimate of the sampling error is


greater than 3 %, then the sampling procedure shall be
appraised. if the estimate of the testing error is above 3 %,
then the testing procedure shall be appraised. If both
estimates are less than 3 %, the sampling procedure can be
assumed to be satisfactorv.

error, see clause 6.)

'Caution. When cement is mixed with water, alkali is released.
Take precautions to avoid dry cemententering the eyes, mouth
and nose when mixing concrete. Prevent skin contact with wet
cement or concrete by wearing suitable protective clothing. If
cement or concrete enters the eye;immediately wash it out
thoroughly with clean water and seek medical treatment without
delay, Wash wet concrete off the skin immediately.'
