NOTE 1. This table does not apply to either sheet or plate produced to highef tensile ranges (¡.e. those
in section three) or f b annealed (A) sheet or plate. For fhesé categories flatness tolerances are by
agreement between the manufacturer and the purchaser.
NbTE 2. Material, rofary sheared a s 8 final operation, tends to have a slight böw across the width.
If strip is required specially flat across the width, this conditioncan be produced by further cold
rolling aftershearing. In such cases, the degree of flatness and method of measuring should be
agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser,
NOTE 3. Specially flattened material ordered not resquared or with ends not resheared may show

Determination of 'r' values (see 1.13)

Using a standard flat tensile t e s t piece, a 25 mm length is
accurately marked in the centre of the parallel section.
The width of the test piece is measured a t five positions
along the 25 mm gauge length and the mean width is
recorded.
The t e s t piece is then strained to approximately 15 %
elongation, measured on the 25 mm gauge length.
The t e s t piece is removed from the tensile testing machine
and the mean width and gauge length are accurately
measured. The 'r' value is determined from the nomogram
shown in figure 6, using the following ratios:
final gauge length
(a)
original (25 mm) gauge length
original width
(b)
final width
Example
Initial gauge length = L, = 25 mm
Final gauge length = L f = 28.75 mm
~ Initial gauge width = W, = 20 mm
Final gauge width = W, = 18.45mm
