What do I already know about the topic (Social Teachings of the
Catholic Church)?
Since senior high school, I’ve been into a catholic school
wherein every semester we have a theology class. Honestly, I somehow know some topics of Social Teachings because of my uncle who is a missionary that were assigned in India for almost 20 years now and every time he came home we had some real talks about our subject. As far as I remember, he told me that it is a rich treasure of wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of the new generation in a modern society. The ideas that I think that we will discuss does not focus only about the principles and values of the Social Teachings of the Catholic Church but as well as it address oppression, the role of the state, subsidiary, social organization, concern for social justice, and issues of wealth distribution. Due to what I have knew as of now, all I can say is that catholic social teaching is designed to protect and promote the dignity of every person and help us to discover and identify our purpose or our role in this life with the ideals from the teachings of the Church.
