1.1 Executive Summary Plug

Objectives Measures

No NPT or HSE incidents Follow Hall. procedures and best practices

Performing job safety analyses
Use the stop work authority
To set a 1.90 sg cement slurry inside the 7” The plug will be set at balance above Hi-Viscous pil.
Casing, from 2700 m to 2500 m in order to Plug Tagged hard @ 2550 m
temporary abandon the well. 50 m excess add as contaminated part.
Retrieve stinger and DP out of the plug slurry Stinger and DP retrieved safely

Competent plug for tagging After WOC the time advised above and when RIH to tag the
cement plug, expect that the first meters of the plug will be soft
or medium as the cement is contaminated at that part and can’t
develop the required strength.

• Lessons Learned:
The job will be done based on previous case histories while placing cement plug 1.90 sg in the same area under the
same conditions by following Halliburton best practices:

➢ A slurry design will be pumped downhole the well with 1.90 sg weight.
➢ Recommended to rotate and reciprocate the DP while cleaning, cementer need to be in rig floor while POOH to
record the volume of fluid circulated out.
➢ DP tally should be checked with Co-Man and Driller.
➢ Discuss and agree with Co-Man about stands that will be POOH, in this case 11 stands will be POOH and reverse
circulating.
➢ Poor cement placement will lead to plug failure, so we highly recommend rotating and reciprocating DP during
pumping to ensure good cement placement.
➢ In order to reduce the risk of cement contamination, we have increased slurry volume to maximum in order to
not compromise the desired top of cement.
➢ HES supervisor has to prepare fresh water, mixing fluid, slurry & dry cement samples in clean containers.
➢ Close the annular BOP and divert all fluids through the choke manifold during the cement placement to
Minimize the cement free-fall impact on the fluid’s contamination.
➢ Set a high viscous pill from 2900 m to 2700 m (200 m length at least) same density as slurry or at least
same density with spacer with the PV/YP parameters at least (PV > 100 cp & YP > 40 lb/100 sq ft). the
high viscous pill will serve as a firm base to the cement plug.

Note 1:
Volumes calculation must be checked on location with Co-man based on final tally, string dimension & latest well
information on site.
Note 2:
Under displace by 2 bbl from the total volume of displacement volume.
Note 3:
Make sure well is stable (under control), no risk of gain or losses, Mud in = Mud out before starting job.
Note 4:
POOH DP to 2400 m and start reverse circulation to clean. 11 stands in total will be POOH
Note 5:
Poor cement placement will lead to plug failure, so we highly recommend rotating and reciprocating DP during
pumping to ensure good cement placement.

2.0 Procedures

2.1 Outline of Pre-Job Preparation Procedures

1.1. Spot and hook up all the equipment safely on location as per HMS and HSE guidelines. Test all equipment
and lines as appropriate to ensure correct function.
1.2. Rig up cement unit so that the pressure transducer on the high-pressure lines can monitor the displacement
pressure, displacement should be done with cement unit just in case of cement unit failure while displacing
the slurry can switch to rig pumps.
1.3. Ensure mud delivery system is good enough for displacement.
1.4. It is recommended to pump a thin mud ahead (YP < 10 lbs/100 ft2) to improve mud displacement.
1.5. It is recommended to circulate the well 2 Hours (108 m3) at 900 L/min to enhance cleaning and to condition
well for the cement job. Expected pressure while circulating is 1510 psi according to simulation.
1.6. It is highly recommended to ensure clear annular path, well sufficiently cooled down, mud weight in = mud
weight out, shale shaker cleanliness and most importantly reasonable pumping parameters are ensured for
cementing.
1.7. Complete the job calculations. Review the engineering calculations attached on this report and the Laboratory
reports of each fluid Final cement job balancing & displacement calculations has to be verified on location
based on final well info, cement plug actual depth, actual cementing string configuration with sizes, weights
& lengths and drill pipes capacity factors
1.8. Ensure that all the chemicals and cement are available, with excess, for the job.
1.9. Discuss the job with the Company Rep, agreeing on pumping procedures, volumes, rates and timing.
1.10. Prepare the spacer in the batch mixer as per the given recipe. Add D-Air 300L, Barazan D (Tuned Spacer)
first and allow for it to yield for a while and circulating and agitating at the same time. Then add Barite and
weigh up the spacer. Stop circulating and keep agitation till adding the Musol-A.
1.11. Prepare the required volume of Plug slurry mix fluid in the batch mixer. Measure the sg of the mix water to
be used and ensure the salinity is not more than 1000 ppm. Take sample.
1.12. Follow the Plug mix fluid additive addition as indicated in the Lab report (D-Air 300L, Gas Stop and HR-800
Circulate while adding and continue till fluid is uniform.
1.13. Note: Add retarder just prior to begin mixing the cement.
1.14. Ensure that additives and cement are weighted and added at the correct amounts (Calibrated
weighing balance is required). Take sample of mix fluid.
1.15. The plan is to batch mix the slurry, add the Cement Class G as close to the job time as possible. Check the sg
of the slurry with the pressurized mud balance after having mixed / circulated / agitated well the whole slurry
volume & before starting pumping. Cement slurry must not be kept on surface for more than 45 min. Take
final sample
1.16. Inform company representative that all fluids have been prepared and submit any appropriate pre-job check
list.

2.2 Outline of Job Procedures

Hold safety and job procedure meeting. Identify possible hazards. Ensure that all personnel involved are
aware of job procedures, safety concerns and that everyone knows what their assigned duties and
responsibilities are. Ensure that all necessary PPE is available and worn as required.

1.1. Ensure the Work Permit has been approved for the pressure testing and for the cementing operation.
1.2. RIH with stinger & DP, it is advised to have a diverter sub at the end of the pipe.
1.3. Pressure test surface lines to 500 psi & 4500 psi psi for 5 & 10 mins to ensure integrity of the unit and high
pressure.
1.4. Set a high viscous pill from 2900 m to 2700m (200 m length at least) same density as slurry or at least same
density with spacer with the PV/YP parameters at least (PV > 100 cp & YP > 40 lb/100 sq ft). the high viscous
pill will serve as a firm base to the cement plug.
1.5. It is recommended to condition the well with low YP mud and circulate as the program. If during the
circulation a difference is seen (pressures lower or higher), Halliburton representative to communicate
immediately this to the base.
1.6. Once circulation done and well is clean and cooled down, close the annular BOP and divert all fluids
through the choke manifold during the cement placement to Minimize the cement free-fall impact on the
fluids that can cause contamination.
1.7. Start pump 5.40 m3 Spacer ahead.
1.8. Pump 3.76 m3 slurry from the batch blender.
1.9. When finished with pumping the slurry, pump 1.60 m3 the calculated volume of spacer to balance the plug
and continue pumping 7.89m3 OBM to displace with the cement unit reduce the rate @ 400 l/min for the
last 2 m3 of displacement with OBM.
1.10. Under-displace by 2 bbl to avoid returns on the rig floor and to take into account the metal displacement
of the stinger when DP is out.
1.11. Once fluids set at balance and before starting pull the DP out of the cement, make sure to open the
annular BOP to avoid damaging it.
1.12. Pull the stinger & DP out of the plug slowly, at 9-12 m/min to avoid disturbing the slurry. Pull out
100 m above theoretical TOC (2500m) to 2400 m and start reverse circulation to clean.
1.13. For tagging, WOC for at least 36 hrs. Without any attempt to RIH to tag earlier.
1.14. After WOC the time advised above and when RIH to tag the cement plug, expect that the first
meters of the plug will be soft or medium as the cement is contaminated at that part and can’t
develop the required strength. Target tagging depth is @ 2550 m.

Stuck Pipe circulate separation.
Test for the effect on the pump time with mud/spacer
contamination.
Ensure that stinger is pulled above the theoretical TOC
before circulating to clean DP.
Ensure adequate pump time is available for the total
operation, including circulation time above the TOC.
POOH rate should be about 10m/min. Do not pull out of the
plug at slower rates than this.
Rotate drill string at 20 rpm
Ensure plug is set on a firm base or use CST or viscous pill at
the bottom of the plug
Condition mud/well prior to setting the plug
Use stinger with diverter in the end
Pump job at high rates
Pump at a minimum 25 bbls of cement or at least 150m
plug length

7.3 Halliburton's Cement Plug Setting Recommendations

1. Optimize mud properties prior to setting the plug. Condition mud to a PV less than 30 cp and a YP of less
than 15 lbs/100ft2. Flat gels required. Circulate at least 1x bottoms up
2. Use 2 7/8 " stringer at a length of 2x the plug height.
3. Avoid setting plugs through open ended Drill Pipe. Use a diverter sub to wash interval at maximum safe
annular velocity and to direct the flow sideways and upwards. Diverter sub must have sufficient holes to
provide a flow area equivalent to the ID area of the tubing stinger. Holes should be 1” in diameter.
4. Ensure a firm bottom exists to support the plug. If set off bottom a mechanical retaining device, or
weighted viscous pill is advised.
5. Run a weighted compatible cementing spacer - minimum of mud weight or a median value between the
mud and slurry weight – volume of 10 minute contact time or 4 m3 minimum.
6. If caliper data is available, use at least 10 % OH excess to calculate cement volume requirements. If caliper
is not available assume 50% Open Hole excess.
7. To take into account contamination between fluids, as a minimum 4 m3 of cement slurry should be pumped
for KOP or plugs that will be tagged. Volumes should estimate approximatelly 50 m of contaminated slurry.
8. With the exception of plugs on top of retainers, run a minimum of 100 m of cement. For Whipstock plugs, a
minimum of 150 m should be run. It is better to pump more cement, pull back and circulate out the excess,
rather than risk having to set the plug again. Insufficient cement volume is one of the primary causes of
plug failures. Minimum cement volume pumped 4 m3.
9. Maximum recommended plug length is 200m. This will allow safely retrieving the DP out of the plug.
10. Displace cement at maximum allowable rate. Use displacement tanks on pump unit for accuracy. This
enhances accuracy, job quality and helps minimize environmental impact of wash-up fluids. This also
provides for a continuous displacement, which is critical in minimizing slurry contamination.
11. Ensure that the temperature estimation for testing the slurry is accurate and that thickening time is
estimated job time plus 120 mins. Over-retardation would increase the WOC time.
12. Underdisplace by 2-5 bbls to minimize U tubing on surface (pulling wet) and to take into account the DP
metal volume when pulling out of the plug.
13. Pipe movement, rotation only at 20 rpm, will allow better mud removal and it is recommended.
14. Dispersants in the slurry design should be kept to a minimum and used only to alleviate surface mixing
viscosity concerns.
15. Pull out of the plug at 9 – 12 m/min to minimize slurry disturbance. Pull a further 3 stands on top of the
theoretical TOC and reverse circulate clean.
16. Avoid reverse circulating at the desired TOC especially with Open ended DP.
17. For tagging be patient. Wait on cement for 24 hrs or when the UCA chart shows at least 1000 psi strength.
Be aware that mud contamination could retard the cement setting and compressive strength development.
