Application

Fans are used in industry to generate a flow of

clean or dust-laden air as well as exhaust gases.
The gas temperatures can be as high as 400oC,
reaching 450oC for short periods.
The FLS High-Pressure Fans, Type XP work at
pressures up to 19,200 Pa and with performances
up to 190 m 3 /s and are designed to
operate in the cement industry environment.
The impeller has bolted-on plane, radial blades
which are easy to replace when worn or when
major changes in performance are required. The
fan has an access door for inspection of the im-
peller and to facilitate the replacement of blades.
The fan hub and impeller are balanced statically
and dynamically to ensure vibration- free opera-
tion.
The heavy duty design eliminates an emergency
drive which would otherwise be necessary during
power cuts.
FLS High-Pressure Fans, Type XP, are fitted with
self-aligning spherical roller or ball bearings. For
operating temperatures above 150oC
Design and operation

the shaft is fitted with a cooling disc to prevent

overheating of the bearing. The bearings are
bolted to the base frame which is grouted into
the concrete foundation. In smaller fans, how-
ever, the casing and the base frame are inte-
grated into one unit.
Motor power is transmitted via a V-belt pulley
(up to 250 kW) or by flexible coupling and a gear.
Highest operating economy is attained by us-
ing a thyristor-controlled motor.
Maintenance requirements are small. Lubri-
cating frequency depends on operational con-
ditions. The bearing temperatures may rise to
100oC. Monitoring equipment to guard against
excessive vibration in bearings is available as
required. Thermal sensors are included in fans
from size 160 and upwards.
Size 160 and above are restricted to seven stan-
dard handings, but this restriction does not ap-
ply to sizes 50-140.
Type designations are XPF or XPW followed by
digits indicating impeller diameter (cm).
Example :
Exhaust gas with a density of 1.2 kg/m3 to be
handled at a rate of 10 m3/s at a total pressure of
6,000 Pa.
Solution :
XPF 180 Operates at optimum efficiency
XPW 140 Operates at optimum efficiency
(higher than XPF)
The XPF types are recommended for parallel
operation.
Power consumption : ~ 80 kW
Total weights: XPF 180 3,000 kg
XPF 140 1,370 kg
