THEORY AND LITERATURE
WHY IS TMT USED IN CONSTRUCTION:
“When building your house, you want it to
not only be beautiful, but also strong. Plain
concrete, which is strong in compression, is very
weak in tension and therefore does not prove to be
a very good structural member by itself. However, it
can be made extremely useful by reinforcing it with
a material like TMT, which has the desired ductility
and bond characteristics”

UNDERSTANDING TMT:

 STRENGTH/GRADE OF STEEL-
The term tensile strength refers
to the amount of Tensile(stretching) stress a
material can withstand before breaking/falling.

 ELONGATION OF STEEL-
A mechanical property of steel that is
the degree to which a steel may be bent,
stretched/compressed before it ruptures.

 IMPORTANCE OF EQR TECHNOLOGY IN TMT-

EQR technology provides
the stability of a structure to withstand the
geographical pressure and trust created during an
earthquake.

 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF TMT-

Important chemicals like carbon,
SULPHUR and phosphorous determine the ductility,
strength and corrosion which in turn determines
the life of the TMT and the building.

 SECTION WEIGHT-
Directly Effects the cost of construction as
steel is purchased in kg’s and used in feet. The
lesser the weight more length will be available to
use it.

 BEND TEST-
To evaluate both the Ductility and
Soundness of a material.

PRODUCT’S MANUFACTURED:-

 Channel.
 Angel.
 Tube.
 Pipes.
 TMT bars.

PURCHASING THE RIGHT TMT

 TMT bars should be fixed in Length that
is 1.2m
 Standard length of bar should not
be less/more than 12m.
 Random bar length will result in use
of excess of steel.
 ISI mark to be present on every 1meter bar
length.
 Grade of steel to be present every
1meter of bar length.
 Size of bar to be present every 1meter of
bar length.
 Rusty and scaly bars should be
avoided while purchasing. Rusty and
scaly bars result in strength loss.
 ZIG-ZAG bars should be avoided
while purchasing.

BENEFITS OF USING TMT BARS

1. FE-550 GRADE

With 550 NEWTONS/MILLIMETER

Square, a high strength in steel is offered
for better load bearing capacity and
higher savings.

2. XTRA GRIP

pattern, ensures highest AR values,
maximum bonding with concrete.

3. 18% ELONGATION
The single most important factor which
determines safety of building construction.
The elongated after yield strength and
before ultimate tensile strength phase
is18% min.

4. EQR

ADVANTAGES OF SK SUPER TMT

 Advance German Technology

SK Super TMT always believes in using
advanced technology. In order to maintain efficient
quality, cutting – edge German technology
machines are used to manufacture TMT bars to
provide high yield strength and a proven
technology to produce high quality clean steel with
least traces of chemical elements like Sulphur and
phosphorus.

 Stringent Quality Check

Every SK Super TMT bar pass through a
comprehensive quality check at every stage of
production. The state-of-the-art lab ensures
accuracy that no inadequacies get past the highly
competent technicians, resulting in a high-quality,
high-performance product. Which means that the
structural engineers get the right chemical
composition in the steel.

 Uniform Diameter throughout

the bars
SK Super TMT ensures a regular Maintainance
of the rollers and machinery, which in turn ensures
the quality processing in terms of physical
parameters. Every SK Super TMT bar is uniform in
diameter from top to bottom, which means the
structural engineers get the right quantity and
uniformity of steel for construction.

 Every bar of precise length and

diameter
With the clear control on physical properties,
SK Super TMT ensure that TMT bars are of
uniform diameter and length and every bar
passes the test for exact measurement stated.
The corresponding length and diameter
specifications are embossed on each TMT bar,
which means the structural engineers get the
right quantity and uniformity of steel for
construction.

 Corrosion Resistance
SK Super TMT adopts a 4-stage endurance
process. Endurance process is the result of a real-
time chemical analysis and a elimination of
impurities which makes the TMT bars corrosion
resistant, which means the structural engineers get
peace of mind about the durability of the steel
used used in construction.

TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED ON MARKETING

DEPARTMENT:
1. Product Manufacturing
Process.
2. Advertising Media.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS-
The process of manufacturing
TMT bars and selling them to the final
customer.

ADVERTISING MEDIA-
The process of promoting goods
and building brand image in customers mind.
MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF TMT
BARS:
The full form of TMT bar/Rebar is Thermo
Mechanically Treated bars. We all know that TMT
bars are essential for all type of construction
purposes but it is also important to know how it
is made.
Best Quality TMT Bars:
These pass through series of
processes that determines the strength and
flexibility of it. The manufacturing process of TMT
bar involves series of processes like – Rolling, Water
quenching, Heat treatment, Cooling at various
stages of manufacturing.

RAW MATERIAL’S USED:

1. Iron Ore.
2. Sponge Iron.
3. Billet.
 IRON ORE-
 SPONGE IRON-

 BILLET
PROCESS OF MANUFACTURING-

 MELTING OF RAW MATERIAL-

Sponge iron with some chemicals are added
and are put in a ladle and heated to a temperature
of at 1650 degree centigrade. Once formed into a
homogenous liquid, impurities from the
homogenous liquid are removed to attain purest
form of liquid iron to be sent for casting into billets.
The chemical composition of the molten material is
analyzed with the help of in house spectrometer
and C & S apparatus.

 CASTING OF BILLETS-
Molten raw iron from the heating furnace is
then casted into billet casting machine for billets to
be produced by way of continuous casting method.
Once casted the billets are cut in desired lengths.
Continuous casting of the billets ensures uniform
quality throughout the lot of material produced at
one time.

 ROLLING PROCESS-
The billets with the help of rolling conveyers
are made to pass through the first stand i.e.
roughing stand. With this, the procedure for the
gradual reduction in size of billet begins. Following
the roughing mill the size of the billet is further
reduced in the intermediate and finishing mill. The
gradual reduction of the billet is an important factor
to ensure finer grain structure of the bar. The rolling
of the billet continues until the desired size of bar is
got.

 QUENCHING PROCESS-
Directly after the last rolling mill stand, the
steel bar receives a short, intensive cooling as it
passes through the THERMEX watercooling system.
The reduction in temperature converts the surface
layer of steel bar to a hardened structure. This
phase of intensive cooling is followed by further
cooling in atmosphere, so that the temperature
between core (which is still hot) and the cooled
surface layer is equalized and the surface layer gets
tempered from the heat of the core. The resultant
structure is tempered marten site zone at the
periphery & affine grain ferrite structure in the
central zone. So the
THERMAX rears have all the desired properties
without the need of costly alloying elements.

 NATURAL COOLING OF THE BAR-

The cooling bed receives the bar where

the atmospheric cooling transforms the core into
Ferrite structure and then compressed to expand
and strengthen them.
