Centralized Corporate Hierarchy. Samsung’s corporate structure involves a hierarchical model, despite
its product-type divisions. The corporate headquarters are the most notable manifestation of this
hierarchy, which is part of an organizational design for ensuring that the conglomerate’s operations are
unified and effectively directed towards growth and operational effectiveness. This characteristic of the
organizational structure involves centralization of overall strategic planning, as well as vertical lines of
command and authority that relay strategic directions from the headquarters to the daily operations in
the Consumer Electronics, Device Solutions, and IT & Mobile Communications divisions.

c) competitive edge

Samsung’s corporate structure has the advantage of extensive support for product development,
especially in terms of technology and innovation. This support comes through the structural framework
of the conglomerate’s product-type divisions. Another advantage of this organizational structure is the
company’s ability to fine-tune its strategies and operations based on market characteristics. This is
possible through the geographical groupings or divisions within the product-type divisions, such as IT &
Mobile Communications. These structural advantages couple with the strengths shown in the SWOT
analysis of Samsung to buttress the business against fierce competition. In this way, the organizational
structure supports the company’s competitive advantage, especially against major competitors like
Apple Inc

e) employment opportunities

The selection process itself consists of four main stages: submission of documents, passing the
admission exam (SSAT, Samsung Aptitude Test), interview and medical examination.

At the first stage, documents are submitted through the official website of the corporation. At this stage,
up to 5% of all applicants are eliminated, the main reason in most cases is simply incorrectly drawn up
questionnaires (incorrectly filled out fields, dates of study or work that differ from real certificates, etc.).

The second stage is SSAT exam and Samsung Aptitude Test. According to the results of this exam, more
than 30% of all applicants are already eliminated. The exam itself consists of four sections: Korean
language, higher mathematics, logic and analysis of contemporary socio-economic news
The third stage is the interview. During the interview, they allow you to tell about yourself briefly, in 5-7
minutes, and after that the present Samsung representatives ask questions like “why our company?”,
“Your weaknesses, strengths?”, Although they can ask about hobbies, hobbies etc. What the top
manager will ask about at the final interview is only known to him.

Up to the fourth and final stage, medical examination, no more than 20-30% of the total number of all
applicants reaches. Here you can already relax and start celebrating. If you are not sick with anything
serious or you managed to successfully hide your sores during all the previous stages, then you entered
the company with a 100% guarantee. The official results are announced only after the reports from
hospitals on the results of medical examinations come.
