MATH 100 (College Mathematics)
Activity Number 1
A. ESSAY. Write your thoughts and ideas about the questions or statement below. (5 points each)

1. Is the idea of numbers universal? Is it the same across the globe? Why?

Answer: No, one proof is that Roman and Chinese used to represent their number system differently through distinct
characters and symbols. So, this example refutes the idea that numbers around the globe is the same or universal.

2. Why are digits and numerals significant?

Answer: Digits and numerals are significant because they tell people the accurate figures about a certain study that aims to
address the need of the people. Through them we are able to recognize time and how we do manage it to make us productive
every day. Without them, life of the people is inchoated because they do not have the basis as to how they are to set schedules
for particular things or matters.

3. Which branch of Mathematics you like the most? the least? Explain.

Answer: The branch of Mathematics that I like the most is Geometry and the branch of it that I like the least is Algebra.
Geometry is what I like the most because it is the most concrete one and which is closer to reality. The most concrete one
because every day we do see a lot of shapes and figures in our houses, in the supermarket and in general sense, in our
surroundings. From the anatomy of our body down to the things that we see every day such as buildings, roads,
supermarkets, malls and etc. It is also closer to reality because it is tangible, we can hold different sizes and shapes of the
things which surround us. On the other hand, Algebra is what I like the least because it is hard for me to relate variables in
real life situations and it is not so applicable in daily living because we mostly use logic reasoning, problem-solving and
strategic and systematic thinking that help us to attain a balanced living.

4. “Mathematics expresses values that reflect the cosmos, including orderliness, balance, harmony, logic, and abstract
beauty.”― Deepak Chopra

Answer: Mathematics has its vast contribution when it comes to the systematic anatomy and concept of the universe. From
the stars in the galaxy that forms patterns, the golden ratio that takes place in our body shapes and sizes, from the construction
of buildings, and in general sense, how we do live a well-balanced life through the rational strategies we use to succeed in
our plans. Mathematics helps us to make our lives organized and provides us formula and strategies we can use to achieve
our desired goal in living.
