Handout 9th A

Books

George likes reading all sorts of books. When he can’t find a book, he goes to the library or a
book shop to search for it. Unfortunately, he couldn’t find the book he needed, so he called Ben
to ask him about it.

George: Hi Ben. How are you?

Ben: Fine. I’m on my free day and I was reading the paper. What about you?

George: Well, I’m trying to find a book and I thought you might have it.

Ben: How come that you don’t have it in your bookcase? I know you are a bookworm.

George: My book collection is not so impressive as you think. So, could you borrow me a
Stephen King novel if you have it?

Ben: I’ve heard about the author. I know he is famous for his psychological thrillers, which is a
famous genre among teenagers and not only. What is the title?

George: “Secret Window”. It was even made into a film.

Ben: Oh, I read a review on the book and I also saw the film. It has a fascinating plot, but the
setting is not so spectacular. Anyway, like in all thrillers, some characters are very frightening.
Unfortunately I don’t have it, although I like this kind of books. When was it published?

George: In September 1990. I came across a paperback edition while I was wandering through
antique shops, but I didn’t buy it then.

Ben: I will ask my friends if they have it and I will let you know. Until then you can search for it
on the Internet and buy it online.

George: That’s not a bad idea. Thanks … bye!
