Greeting Card

A.  DEFINITION

Greeting card or greeting card is a card given to someone to express a


message, in the form of our feelings and attention to the card recipient. This
message was conveyed for several reasons, for example:
1. the card recipient commemorates certain days ( Celebrating Special Occasion)
    Examples: birthday card (given when someone's birthday), new year card (given
when celebrating a new year), wedding anniversary card (given when
someone celebrates a wedding anniversary)
2. card recipients get happiness (Happines )
  Example: job promotion (given when someone gets a promotion), winning
competition (given when someone wins a competition)
3. card recipients experience sadness or disaster ( Sympathy / Condolences )
    Example: passing away (dies), getting accident (having an accident)

B.  PURPOSES / SOCIAL FUNCTIONS

There are several purposes for us to give greeting cards including:


1.  To greet someone on special occasion
2.  To congratulate
3.  To wish / pray
4.  To give sympathy
5.  To praise ... about their achievement (the dots can be filled with card recipients)

C.  STRUCTURE / PARTS OF GREETING CARD

         Example of greeting card:

From the example greeting card above, we can see that there are three main parts in
a greeting card, namely:
1. Receiver / addressee (receiver)
        Example: 
        Dear Dad,
        Hi Dinda
        Hey Tom

2. Content / Message / Hope / Wish (content / message / hope)


        Example: 
        I wish you all the best.
        I hope you have a great day.
        Congratulation on your upcoming marriage.
        Happy new year.
        We are sorry for your loosing.
        Get well soon.

3.  Sender (sender)


        Example:
        Hilda
        Yours,
        Mom and Dad
        Regards, 
        Your friend,

D. LANGUAGE FEATURES

Greeting cards usually use the simple present tense and the future tense . Greeting


cards usually also use the expressions  hope / wish, congratulation, sympathy or
condolences .

1.Receiver / addressee
   Here you can write / say the name of the target person.
   For example: Hi Tias, Dear mom, etc.
2. Content The
   contents of the greeting card are the messages you want to convey to the card
recipient. In greeting cards, usually use expressions
         a.Wish / hope
             Example:
             I wish you all the best.
             We hope you will get well soon.
         b. Congratulation
             Example: Congratulation on winning the swimming competition
         c. Sympathy / condolences
             Example:
             We are sorry for your loosing.
              Please accept our heartfelt condolences on the lost of your mother.
3. Sender (sender)
    Usually written / mentioned the name of the person who sent the card.
         Example:
         Hilda Mom and Dad
         Yours,
