Fixed Number Portability FAQs

Q1 . What are the benefits of FNP?

Landline numbers are used by an entire family, whereas, mobile numbers are personal
numbers. As a customer, you can retain your home telephone number with a new operator of
your choice

Q2.  Who is a DL (Donor Licensee)?

The fixed operator to whose network the landline number is allocated to by the TRA, at the
time the subscriber raises a porting request. i.e., the operator from whom the Porting customer
leaves
 
Q3. Who is RL (Recipient Licensee)?

The fixed operator in whose network the subscriber wants to avails the service and raises the
porting request at. It to this licensee that the landline number is allotted to by the TRA after the
porting request is completed.

 Q4. Who is FNP Gateway or NPC ?

FNP gateway or Number Porting Clearance House/System (NPC) is an intermediary between


operators and facilitates smooth porting of numbers between them. They accepts porting
requests from the RL, shares the porting approved / rejected statuses from the DL. They’re
effectively a mediation system between the DL and RL.
 
Q5. Can a customer port more than once?

Yes the customer’s number can be ported multiple times with an interval of 30 days

Q6. Help! I ported into a new operator and I don’t like their service. Can I port-back ?

Yes! Within a period of 7 days, you can port-back to the old operator with the same number, to
a product that is actively sold by them. Old products that are closed for sale in which the
customer was in at the time of porting-out cannot be availed again.

Exit charges will be waived for such customers. Device related charges will be waived if the
device is returned in the same condition as it was provided in. Customer is liable to pay all other
charges, namely, applicable plan monthly rent, usage charges of landline or OnDemand movies,
subscription charges for Add-ons or other services. This should be done on basis individual
customer case as per the current processes.

After 7 days, if the customer wishes to return back, then he should raise a new Port-In request
after 30 days are complete from the date of actual port-in.
 
Q7. In case I have pending payments with my current operator, can raise a request to port-
in ?

Yes. Even if you have any amount of balance due, you will be able to raise a porting request.
However, please note, as a customer you’re still liable to settle your dues with the DL.
 

Q8. Can I cancel a porting request ?

Yes, before a porting request is approved by the DL, it can be cancelled (ie., within 7 working
hours). This must be done by the customer with the RL.
 
Q9. I am moving from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and would like to retain my number. Can I ?

Sorry. Number porting is possible only within the Emirate

Q10. What is the SLA when I want to port out of Etisalat to another operator?

The SLA for porting out of Etisalat can only be communicated by the concerned operator. 

Q11. The customer requesting FNP is an existing Etisalat customer and already has an existing
party ID. What should I do ?

The same existing process that’s used to provide a new account to the customer is to be
followed along with FNP / Bitstream, as maybe applicable
