Communication Tools for Teaching

Due to current situations in the world around us, digital communication has become very

important to education. In order to effectively communicate with students and parents, educators

have had to find ways to creatively communicate grades and work to them. Because distance

learning has become the normal with an ongoing pandemic happening, teachers have resorted to

finding new meaningful ways to keep students engaged. There are many tools out there today

that can be used to achieve fruitful communication between teachers and students. Some of these

websites include social media platforms, ClassDojo, SerialMailer, Remind, GoogleVoice,

Google Classroom, and Google Hangouts.

In my own personal classroom I use the feature of Google Classroom. Google Classroom

allows me to post assignments for students while also being able to comment on them. This

feature allows the students to know exactly what is required of them and their parents can get

involved too. Parents can access the students account and keep track of any assignments they

need to complete for class. Google Classroom also has a feature that sends email updates to the

students so they can see something has been posted to the class right away.

Another application that can be used for communication between students and teachers is

ClassDojo. This website is very effective because it allows students to be interactive and create

their own little character that keeps track of their work. Parents can also get involved by logging

into the website and directly being connected to their child and only their child. ClassDojo also

allows the teacher to send messages to the students' parents to communicate with them how their

student is doing in the class. The teacher can also reward students points to their respective

character that shows them how they rank in the class grade wise. Furthermore, the teacher can

group students together efficiently through ClassDojo. Overall, it is a fun and interactive website

that keeps students engaged and long to learn in the classroom.

Finally, the last website that helps facilitate good communication between educators and

students is Remind. Remind allows teachers to personally message students or their parents

wherever they are. This website creates a direct line of communication for students and teachers

so there is no excuse for missing assignments or schoolwork. Remind creates a community

focused directly on communication so no one feels out of the loop and can say they are missing

anything. All of these websites usher in creative ways to communicate to students as educators

and still keep parents involved.
