II. After grouping the said sample texts, answer the following questions. You may write your
answers briefly using one to two sentences only.
1. What is/are your basis on grouping the sample text?
- My answers were based on how they were written and to what we usually do in school. Also
considering the audience of the author, Some of these are written that used references as they explore
a specific topic while the others pertains to the author’s emotions, opinions feelings and ideas.
2. What is the most striking difference of an Academic Text from a Non-Academic texts based
from your own understanding?
- Academic text are written formally and it is intended to be used in scholarly audience such as
research papers that requires a lot of sources to be able to come up with an informative topic. It is also
important to write formally when a person is looking for a job.
- Nonacademic text are usually written informally to be used in writing emails to your friends and
family. And it is also not intended for academic audience. They were written based on the author’s
emotions and opinions that is understandable to the public. Its main purpose is to entertain, persuade
and inform the readers.
3. Based from the video and the groupings that you made, what do you think are some DON'Ts
or avoided practices or mistakes in writing an academic text? Give at least three don'ts.
- In writing formal messages or text, it is important to choose the right vocabulary. It is also important
to not use abbreviations, it’s okay to use abbreviations when speaking but not in writing a formal
letter. The use of passive language must not be tolerated in academic writing. And finally, do not use
short and informal words in a sentence, instead use longer and more complex sentences.
