What to do:
Read the following information that support laws in conservation of animals
and organize the information given using the table below.
Republic Act No. 9147 an act providing for the conservation and protection
of wildlife resources and their habitats, appropriating funds therefor and for other
purposes. This act shall be known as the “Wildlife Resources Conservation and
Protection Act.” It shall be the policy of the State to conserve the country’s wildlife
resources and their habitats for sustainability. In the pursuit of this policy, this Act
shall have the following objectives:
(a) to conserve and protect wildlife species and their habitats to promote
ecological balance and enhance biological diversity;
(b) to regulate the collection and trade of wildlife
(c) to pursue, with due regard to the national interest, the Philippine
commitment to international conventions, protection of wildlife and their
habitats; and
(d) to initiate or support scientific studies on the conservation of biological

Possession of Wildlife
NO person or entity shall be allowed of possession of wildlife unless:
Proof of financial and technical capability.
Has facilities to maintain the wildlife.
Obtained from legal sources.

Definition
Critically endangered species - Species facing extremely high risk of
extinction in the immediate future.
Endangered species – species whose survival is unlikely if the casual factors
threatening survival would continue.
Vulnerable species – species under threat from adverse factors throughout
range of habitat - likely to move to endangered category in the future.

Republic Act No. 8485 an act to promote animal welfare in the Philippines,
otherwise known as “The animal Welfare Act of 1998”. Section 1 states that it is
the purpose of this Act to protect and promote the welfare of all animals in the
Philippines by supervising and regulating the establishment and operations of all
facilities utilized for breeding, maintaining, keeping, treating or training of all
animals either as objects of trade or as household pets. For purposes of this Act,
pet animal shall include birds. Section 2 states that it shall be unlawful for any
person to torture any animal, to neglect to provide adequate care, sustenance or
shelter, or maltreat any animal or to subject any dog or horse to dogfights or
horsefights, kill or cause or procure to be tortured or deprived of adequate care,

The killing of any animal other than cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, poultry,
rabbits, carabaos, horses, deer and crocodiles is likewise hereby declared unlawful
except in the following instances:
(1) When it is done as part of the religious rituals of an established religion or sect
or a ritual required by tribal or ethnic custom of indigenous cultural communities;
however, leaders shall keep records in cooperation with the Committee on Animal
Welfare;
(2) When the pet animal is afflicted with an incurable communicable disease as
determined and certified by a duly licensed veterinarian;
(3) When the killing is deemed necessary to put an end to the misery suffered by
the animal as determined and certified by a duly licensed veterinarian;
(4) When it is done to prevent an imminent danger to the life or limb of a human
being; and
(5) When done for the purpose of animal population control;
(6) When the animal is killed after it has been used in authorized research or
experiments; and
(7) Any other ground analogous to the foregoing as determined and certified by a
licensed veterinarian.
In Section 8, Any person who violates any of the provisions of this Act shall,
upon conviction by final judgment, be punished by imprisonment of not less than
six (6) months nor more than two (2) years or a fine or not less than One thousand
pesos (P1,000) nor more than Five thousand pesos (P5,000) or both at the
discretion of the Court. If the violation is committed by a juridical person, the
officer responsible therefor shall serve the imprisonment when imposed. If the
violation is committed by an alien, he or she shall be immediately deported after
service of sentence without any further proceedings.[ CITATION htt98 \l 13321 ]
Republic Act No. No. 7586 an act providing for the establishment and
management of national integrated protected areas system, defining its scope and
coverage, and for other purposes. This act shall be known and referred to as the
“National Integrated Protected Areas System Act of 1992”. It primarily aims “to
secure for the Filipino people of present and future generations the perpetual
existence of all native plants and animals through the establishment of a
comprehensive system of integrated protected areas within the classification of
national park as provided for in the Constitution”.
(c) Use of any motorized equipment without a permit from the Management Board;
(d) Mutilating, defacing or destroying objects of natural beauty, or objects of
interest to cultural communities (of scenic value);

In SECTION 21, Penalties. – Whoever violates this Act or any rules and
regulations issued by the Department pursuant to this Act or whoever is found
guilty by a competent court of justice of any of the offenses in the preceding section
shall be fined in the amount of not less than Five thousand pesos (P5,000) nor
more than Five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000), exclusive of the value of the
thing damaged or imprisonment for not less than one (1) year but not more than
six (6) years, or both, as determined by the court: Provided, that, if the area
requires rehabilitation or restoration as determined by the court, the offender shall
be required to restore or compensate for the restoration to the damages: Provided,
further, that court shall order the eviction of the offender from the land and the
forfeiture in favor of the Government of all minerals, timber or any species collected
or removed including all equipment, devices and firearms used in connection
therewith, and any construction or improvement made thereon by the offender. If
the offender is an association or corporation, the president or manager shall be
directly responsible for the act of his employees and laborers: Provided, finally, that
the DENR may impose administrative fines and penalties consistent with this Act.

Republic Act 7611 an act adopting the strategic environment plan for
Palawan, creating the administrative machinery to its implementation, converting
the Palawan integrated area development project office to its support staff,
providing funds therefor, and for other purpose. This act shall be known as the
“Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) for Palawan Act.” It is hereby declared the
policy of the State to protect, develop and conserve its natural resources. Towards
this end, it shall assist and support the implementation of plans, programs and
projects formulated to preserve and enhance the environment, and at the same
time pursue the socioeconomic development goals of the country.
It shall support and promote the sustainable development goals for the
provinces through proper conservation, utilization and development of natural
resources to provide optimum yields on a continuing basis. With specific reference
to forest resources, the State shall pursue and implement forest conservation and
protection through the imposition of a total commercial logging ban as hereinafter
provided.
It shall also promote and encourage the involvement of all sectors of society
and maximize people participation in natural resource management, conservation
and protection.

in conservation of animals and organize the information given using the table

Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), drafted from Republic Act 8485
or the Philippine Animal Welfare Bill. It promotes adopting instead of buying pets in
the Philippines, which increased the number who actually did. As a member of the
national Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council, it rescued abandoned and
injured animals from a village ravaged by a landslide.
Philippine Animal Rescue Team (PART), has a four – hectare farm in San
Jose del Monte City, Bulacan, where 500 homeless dogs, cats, turtles, chickens,
turkeys and goats roam freely. As the first and only “no – kill” animal rescue
organization in the country, it aims to cease killing animals that are not suffering
from any ailment.
CARA Welfare Philippines, employs a trap – neuter – return program to
control street animal population. They also manage a sanctuary for pitballs rescued
from a dog – fighting syndicate.
Happy Animals Club, nine – year – old Ken Amante’s dream was to keep
stray dogs and cats off the street. It quickly became a reality when photos of him
feeding animals on the street went viral on social media. Donations started pouring
in from around the world. His father told him it would take him 20 years to get a
shelter. But now, the Happy Animals Club leases a 1,000 – square meters’ lot,
which has too large pens, two apartments, and an annex. It also rescues dogs from
the city pound to avoid euthanasia.
Animal Welfare Coalition (AWC), Established in 2006 by other animal
Welfare groups, AWC focuses on proper pet care, animal control, and the dog meat
trade. AWC was one of the groups that helped restore the snout of Kabang “The
Hero Dog”, who jumped in front of a motorcycle to save the life of two children in
2011.
Philippine Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PSPCA),
organized in 1904 and enforced through commonwealth Act 1285, the PSPCA is
one of the oldest organizations in the country. Its clinic in Quiapo, Manila, can

accommodate check-ups, provide medicine, become a shelter, and give daycare and

pledge to do what they can to step wildlife trafficking.
Buy responsibly. By not purchasing products made from endangered
animals or their parts, you can stop wildlife trafficking from being a
profitable enterprise.
Pitch In. Trash isn’t just ugly, it’s harmful. Birds and other animals
can trap their heads in plastic rings. Fish can get stuck in nets. Plus,
trash pollutes everyone’s’ natural resources. Do your part by putting
trash in its place.
Recycle. Find new ways to use things you already own. If you can’t
reuse, recycle. The Minnesota Zoo encourage patron to recycle mobile
phones to reduces demand for the mineral coltran, which is mined
from lowland gorilla’s habitats.
Restore. Habitat destruction is the main treat to 85% of all
threatened and endangered species, according to the International
Union for Conservation of Nature. You can help reduce this threat by
planting native trees, restoring wetlands, or cleaning up beaches in
your area.
Join. Whether you’re into protecting natural habitats or preventing
wildlife trafficking, find the organization that speaks to your passion
and get involved. Become a member. Stay informed. Actively support

components: Abiotic and Biotic.
Endangered Animals are animals that are in danger of becoming extinct. This
means that there will be no more of these animals alive on earth. An animal is
considered endangered or “threatened” when there are very few of them alive.
Environment is the air, water, and land in or on which people, animals, and
plants live.
