A.-RULES FOR COMPARATIVE AND SUPERLATIVE

1.-One-syllable adjectives.

-Para formar comparativos debes agregar - er y para los superlativos - est

tall taller tallest

old older oldest
long longer longest

-Si el adjetivo termina en “e”, solo le agregamos “- r” para el comparativo y “- est”

para la forma superlativa

large larger largest

-Si la sílaba termina en “consonante- vocal – consonante” se duplica la consonante y se

agrega “er” para la forma comparativa , y “est” para la forma superlativa

big bigger biggest

thin thinner thinnest
fat fatter fattest

2.-Two syllable adjectives

-Algunos adjetivos tienen dos sílabas y terminan en “y”, se cambia esta letra por “i” y
se agrega “er” para el comparativo y “est” para el superlativo

happy happier happiest

busy busier busiest

-Muchos adjetivos de dos sílabas se les debe agregar “more” para el comparativo y
“most” para el superlativo.

3.-Three syllable or more adjectives

Para los adjetivos con tres sílabas o más se agrega “more” para el comparativo y
“most” para el superlativo.

4.-Irregular adjectives.

Estas son excepciones a la regla

B.-Comparative Form of Adjectives

To make the comparison you have to use the word THAN

Examples:

Maria is taller than Juan

My sister is SHORTER than me

My bed is MORE COMFORTABLE than yours
