organism created through genetic engineering.

COSMETIC PRESERVATION 12. It refers to the genetically modified plants that

resist natural discoloration. Example plant is Arctic
Apple.

CLIMATE CHANGE 13. It refers to the statistically significant changes in

climate for continuous period of time.

MOLECULAR BEAM EPITAXY 14. It is one manner for depositing extremely

controlled thin films.

DIP PEN LITHOGRAPHY 15. It is a method in which the tip of an atomic

force
microscope is “dipped” into a into a chemical fluid and
then utilized to “write” on a surface, like an old-fashioned
ink pen onto paper.

NANOTECHNOLOGY 16. It refers to the science, engineering, and

technology conducted at the nan scale, which is about
1 to 100 nanometers.
NANOMETER 17. It refers to a billionth of a meter, or 10-9 of a
meter.

THE WORLD WIDE WED INTERNET 18. A worldwide system of

Interconnected networks
that facilitate data transmission among innumerable
computer.

CARTAGENA 19. It is an international environmental treaty that

regulates the trans boundary movements of Living
Modified Organisms.

INFORMATION ANXIETY 20. The term called by Richard Wurman which

means
information got ahead of us.

III. ESSAY

1.What significant contribution can individual make in response to climate

change ?

Answer: Individual action on climate change can include personal choices in

many areas, such as diet, means of long- and short-distance travel, household
energy use, consumption of goods and services, and family size. Individuals
can also engage in local and political advocacy around issues of climate
change. 2-equivalent.

2. What are the contributions of nanotechnology for the improvement and

sustainability for our environment?
Answer: The Nanotechnology products, processes and applications are
expected to contribute significantly to environmental and climate protection
by saving raw materials, energy and water as well as by reducing greenhouse
gases and hazardous wastes.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages that GMO’S bring to humans?

Answer: The genetic engineering is one of the great marvels of 21st century
human. It allowed for precise control over the genetic changes introduced into
an organism. Today, we can incorporate new genes from one species into a
completely unrelated species through genetic engineering, optimizing
agricultural performance or facilitating the production.

The advantages of GMO’S

1. It improves production and raise farmer's income. Filipino farmers are

still practicing traditional process of seeding and cultivation, which
required scientific moves for raising their production. Hence, it is one of
the moves to enhance the farm production.

2. It reduces the use of pesticide and insecticide during farming that might be
great moves for the betterment of the food supply.

The disadvantages
1. The production imposes high risks to the disruption of ecosystem and
biodiversity because the “better” traits produced from engineering genes can
result in the favoring of one organism. Hence, it can eventually disrupt the
natural process of gene flow.

2. It increases the cost of cultivation and more inclined towards

marketization of farming that work on immoral profits.

4. Aside from communication, what aspects of society is/are being influenced

in the information age?

Answer: Aside from communication, the information age also affects the way

students study, it is able to enforce or change our political views, it provides
the news, a business minded person you can find an entire trade school
online, we work, trade stocks, sell goods online. The information age brought
everything non-physical to us.

5. Do you think earth can exist without human beings taking care of it? Or
biodiversity also needs human beings for to be in a continuous growing
process?

Answer: From my perspectives my answer is NO, because human beings

needs biodiversity the same as biodiversity needs human beings. Therefore,
the Earth cannot exist without human beings for they both need each other
.That being said, biodiversity greatly needs human beings too to take care of
them to continue growing or existing.
6. Would you object yourself to gene therapy without it’s 100% assurance of
effectiveness or future negative side effects? why?

Gene therapy is under study to determine whether it could be used to treat

disease. Current research is evaluating the safety of gene therapy; future
studies will test whether it is an effective treatment option. Several studies
have already shown that this approach can have very serious health risks,
such as toxicity, inflammation, and cancer. Because the techniques are
relatively new, some of the risks may be unpredictable; however, medical
researchers, institutions, and regulatory agencies are working to ensure that
gene therapy research is as safe as possible.
