Introduction

HR Generalist is an important role which is instrumental in building collaborative culture by engaging


the employees through various HR interventions. Their endeavour is guided by meaningful HR
connect through which they get a feel of the organization and align their efforts with Business Goals
accordingly. A need was felt to have a document which works as a trigger in generating an active
consciousness amongst HROs about “how we work”.

Key themes which can be kept at the back of mind in servicing associates are, Reliability and
Consistency of Service, Genuine Associate Connect towards becoming trusted partner, Associate
Delight, Humane touch, Rules/procedures as means to drive the organisational interest with
impeccable effectiveness.

Organizational Processes and Discipline

 Maintain punctuality, work discipline, protocol and healthy work ethic


 Ensure security of information; never violate any of the security norms. If you see somebody
doing that, please report. Ensure brushing up your Security concepts and completing
iSecurity quiz on periodic basis.
 While wearing TCS Identity card is a matter of pride , displaying it prominently all the times
when you are inside TCS Premises reflects your conscious adherence for security procedures
of the organization
 Adhere to the Dress Code and be a polite but firm custodian of the Dress code process
 Plan your leaves and apply your planned and unplanned leaves without fail
 Do not become timesheet defaulters; filling in your time-sheet on daily basis helps you track
your work closely and gives you a satisfaction at the end of the day that you had a fulfilling
day
 Keeping a watchful tab onto your financial claims. It is advised to make a system for ensuring
proper recording of expenses. On-time submission helps in faster return of money that you
spent for official purposes

Stakeholder Communication

 Be humane and polite even in stressful situations. Listen to the associates calmly, attentively
 Be soft and sound happy when you pick up a call on your phone; there is enough research to
say that the caller can make out your mood from what/how you speak
 Be a trusted friend; make a sincere attempt to reach that status over a period of time
 Manage your emails on time and keep an SLA for yourself to reply to every email. Mail
etiquettes can make a big difference in being an HR, good HR and an excellent one
 Keep a close watch on work environment so as to identify burn-out cases on prompt basis.
Ensure communication to all relevant stakeholders so as to take corrective actions and
mitigate the risks of further deterioration

Conducting and Developing Self

 Remain positive and cheerful all the time. Remember “If you see someone without a smile,
give one of yours”

 Remain updated on what is appearing on Ultimatix and its sub-applications; Knome is the
happening thing around. Use analytics, qualitative analysis on the inputs captured from the
ground and make interventions as appropriate
 Develop strong knowledge of ‘What is Where” in TCS
 Attention to details is a must and should grow with tenure spent in the role
 Responding to e-mails for effective closure can make a big difference .Consistency and
judiciousness in using ‘to’ and ‘cc’; “why the mail” must be clear
 No reminder culture. Please ensure effective control of your action items
 Consistency is the name of the game- be it power point presentation or word document or any
other task. Don’t reinvent the wheel, if not needed
 Conserve resources. E.g. Do not fire a print-out now, if you are not going to pick it up quickly.
May be you do not need it at all. Use both sides of paper (duplex printing), as far as possible;
recycle paper to the extent possible
 Maintaining a Calendar and list of work items helps
 Keep your whereabouts and leave plans known to your immediate supervisor; personal
contact information must be with your Supervisor and fellow colleagues.
 Your back-up associate must be updated with all key work items when not in office. Sharing
complete view reflects how well you are in control of your tasks .Make written information as
much as you can as that also helps in keeping you undisturbed while OOO.
 Take regular back-ups of critical data. Back up is your insurance against loss of data
 Explore various CBT/WBT/ILTs periodically; pace yourself the way you want. Remember that
you are doing it for your own enhancement
 Hone your HR and Business skills regularly- learning has no limits
 Hone your presentation and communication skills regularly
 It is important to develop strong command over at least one new HR domain per year
 Read, read and read. Being in HR, readings in General Management, HR, OB, OD, and P&IR
will help you develop mastery over your profession. It will be a good approach to deploy
learning gained from these avenues and have interventions customized according to these.
Encourage good health, safety, security amongst associate; practice it yourself first

Task Ownership Beyond One’s Own Function

 Co-operate and own the responsibilities of other functions also, whenever required
 Demonstrate end to end ownership for the work assigned at Branch/Corporate events
 Establish collaborative relationships with various functional and departmental areas
 Promote a healthy culture in the organization that values diversity and focuses on trust
and respect for individuals and their contribution

Escalation Management

 Owning escalations end to end to ensure no slippages and keeping all stakeholders informed
promptly
 Ensuring that grievances are addressed with strong empathy and process rigor
