Self-Assessment of NBPTS

Directions: For each element, rate yourself in one of the following three categories. Then provide examples of your experiences in the
area of the NBPTS. Finally, identify areas within each domain where you are interested in growing. On the last page, summarize your
strengths and areas of possible growth. Boxes will expand as needed.

learners in my classroom that all have specific
needs, in order to meet all their needs, I make sure
that I utilize various modalities in my teaching from
direct instruction to student led discusssion and

Disciplines

discuss what exactly we are teaching and how we
can make ties between the three classesss in order
to make learning more meaningful for students.

is most effective for them.
 While being up to date in regards to subject matter
is exceedingly important, it is just as crucial that as
an educator I continue to hone my craft in regards
to the way that I communicate subject matter to
my students. In order to facilitate this, I have found
Gilder Lherman to be a great resource as it
provides various lesson plans and ideas that can be
utilized within the classroom.

Proposition 3: Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning. E/E A I/I
1. Teachers Call on Multiple Methods to Meet Their Instructional Goals
2. Teachers Support Student Learning in Varied Settings and Groups
3. Teachers Value Student Engagement
4. Teachers Regularly Assess Student Progress
5. Teachers Engage Students in the Learning Process

learning process. I personally accomplish this by
including several questions at the end of
tests/quizzes that ask students for suggestions in
regards to what they would like to see

say in what goes on in the classroom and the
learning process as a whole.
 I have found that one of the best ways to ensure
that students are understanding various concepts
is to give them the opportunity to teach it to their
classmates themselves. One strategy I utilize in
order to accomplish this is jigsaw activities… I

Proposition 4: Teachers think systematically about their practices and learn from experience. E/E A I/I
1. Teachers Make Difficult Choices That Test Their Professional Judgment
2. Teachers Use Feedback and Research to Improve Their Practice and Positively Impact Student Learning
Three Examples of Proposition 4 Experiences Areas of Interest in Growth
 Since being enrolled in the TIP'S program, I have
found the POP cycles that we are required to
complete to be quite valuable as they provide me
with detailed feedback in regards to my teaching
practices as well as how I can continue to improve.

it has forced me to think and analyze problems in a

continue to uphold equitability for all my students.

Proposition 5: Teachers are Members of Professional Communities E/E A I/I

2. Teachers Work Collaboratively with Families
3. Teachers Work Collaboratively with the Community

pertinent that I send out constant communication in
regards to tests and upcoming assignments in order
to keep both students and their families in the loop
in regards to what is going on in my classroom.

Summary of Strengths and Areas of Possible Growth

Through completing this self assessment, there are two main points of strenght and weakness that I was able to glean.
First off in regards to my strenghts, I personally believe that I am very good when it comes to collaborating with and
learning from my peers, as I personally thrive off of constructive criticism as I continue to hone my craft and become the
best teacher that I possibly can be. Second I have found that inculding students within the learning process and allowing
them to provide feedback in regards to what they would like to see included in the class is also a strength of mine. I have
found that in doing so students are better able to take charge of their learning. The first area of improvement that I was
able to pinpoint throught this assessment was the fact that sometimes I tend to struggle with differentiated instruction as I
seem to get caught in a repetitve rut from time to time. I believe that If I work on this area I will be better equipped to fully
engage students in my lessons. Additionally I have found that while the surrounding community has a lot to offer in
regards to resources that could improve my classess, I have failed to take advantage of those resources. Overall, it has
been a valuable experience to complete this self assessment as it has opened my eyes to the strenths and areas of
improvement that I possess as an educator.
