Hardship Funds

The Royal Academy of Music is able to offer financial assistance to students who are experiencing
hardship during their time at the Academy. The awards are made at the discretion of the Dean of
Students.

Students wishing to be considered for an award should fill in the application form below and return it
to the International Officer and Executive Assistant (slow@ram.ac.uk). The form can also be
completed online here. If your request is particularly urgent, please discuss this with the International
Officer and Executive Assistant.

Please fill in the form with as much information as possible, as this is used to help decide whether to
award a grant and the specific amount. All financial information supplied should be for the academic
year (i.e. 10 months from September – June). To calculate your annual expenditure, multiply your
monthly expenditure by 10.

We will also require bank statements from the last 3 months, please share these using OneDrive. All
data supplied will be shared with the International Officer and Executive Assistant and the Dean of
Students, handled in accordance with the principles of the General Data Protection Regulation. Bank
statements will only be kept while the application is being processed. Application forms will be kept
until the expected date of graduation and then destroyed. Your personal data will be stored and
processed by the Royal Academy of Music in accordance with the provisions of the 2018 General
Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Please see www.ram.ac.uk/privacy for more information.

Should you be awarded help from the fund, we will notify you by e-mail. Please supply your bank
account details according to the instructions on that letter to receive your payment.

Please note that we cannot consider applications from students who have not yet enrolled at the
Academy. Please do not submit a request for assistance until after you have completed the enrolment
process. If you have any queries, or are currently temporarily enrolled, please contact the
International Officer and Executive Assistant in advance of completing the form: slow@ram.ac.uk

The Academy is grateful to The Henry Wood Accommodation Trust, the Louise Child Fund and The
Derek Hill Foundation for their contribution towards the hardship funds. During the Covid-19 crisis
these have been generously augmented by donations to the Academy Response Fund. Please be aware
that should your application be successful, and a grant awarded from any of these sources, your
details may be forwarded to the relevant organisation who will securely store the information and
ensure it isn’t forwarded to any third parties. Please speak to the International Officer and Executive
Assistant if you have any questions about this.
