ANIMALS

Reproduction- is the process of producing another organism of its own kind.

Modes of Reproduction

1. Sexual- wherein the male and female gametes (sex cells) combine to form a new individual.

Examples: birds, cats, dogs and cows

Types of Sexual Reproduction

A. Oviparous Animals= animals that are hatched from eggs

Ex. Animals such as birds, reptiles, insects
B. Vivaparous Animals= give birth to its lifespring
Ex: mammals, dog, cats
C. Ovoviviparity Animals= animals develop their young inside the egg in their body, but the
baby is born alive.
Ex. Sharks , snakes

2. Asexual- wherein another individual is produced from parent’s own body part.

Examples: fishes , snails earthworms

Hermaphrodites=both male and female reproductive organs

Animals have sex organs that produce sex cells or gametes.

Sperm Cell for male and Egg Cell for female

Fertilization= takes place when a sperm cell unites with the egg cell.

Fertilized egg/zygote which develops into an embryo

Modes of Fertilization

1. Internal Fertilization= happens when the male animal releases sperm cells into the body.
2. External Fertilization= occurs outside the bodies of the parents.

Binary Fission= is a type of asexual Reproduction wherein parent animal divides itself into two. Each half

grows into a new individual. It is also called splitting.

Ex. Marine animals and very small animals like sea anemone

Budding= is a type of asexual reproduction happens when an outgrowth of the parent animal develops
into a new animal. A bulge appears on the parent’s body and eventually becomes a miniature copy of
the parent. Example: Hydra and Jellyfish
Zoology= is the study of animals and it’s behaviour

Zoologists= a person who study about animals

Species= is a group of animals of the same kind.

Endemic Animals= species of animals are found only in specific countries or places.

List of Endemic Animals in the Philippines:

Mindoro dwarf buffalo, Philippine Tarsier, Philippine mouse deer, Philippine crocodile

Endangered Animals= animals that are significantly few in number and those that face threats of
extinction

Extinct Animals= organisms because they are no longer found on Earth.

2. CLOTHING AND ACCESSORIES= it can give a source of clothing materials such as cows and
carabaos, ostriches, snakes and crocodiles.
Fur coats= often made from the fur of animals such as sheep
Pearls= come from oysters used as earrings, rings, bracelets and necklaces.
3. Work and Transportation= animals as a help in working such as carabaos in the farm used to
plow rice field , horses used to carry heavy loads and used as a

4. Companionship and Protection= Pets even provide a protection to their owners and their
properties. Dogs usually bark strangers or unwelcome visitors.
