EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The study Effects of Horizontal Airflow System in Tomato (Solanum

Lycopersicum) Crops in Portable Greenhouse aimed to determine the significant

relationship of airflow and the growth of tomato crops in a portable greenhouse

using horizontal airflow system and without horizontal airflow system. This study

tested the level of effectiveness of the horizontal airflow system on tomato crops

in terms of specific variables like area of leaves and plant height. This research

entitled Effects of Horizontal Air Flow System in Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum)

Crops in a Portable Greenhouse was conducted by the selected Bachelor of

Science in Mechanical Engineering students of the University of Rizal System,

Morong Campus during the 2nd semester of the school year 2018 – 2019 up to 1st

semester of the school year 2019 – 2020 in Brgy. Pinagkamaligan, Tanay, Rizal.

l for observation and data collections.

Two greenhouses were built, one with horizontal air flow system and one

without: each greenhouse cultivating six (6) tomato plants, determining if there is

a significant relationship between airflow and growth of tomato crops. To interpret

the level of effectiveness of greenhouse, the researchers employed the statistical

method by means of mean, standard deviation, and t - test. This was helpful in

comparison of each greenhouse which enables the researchers to draw various

results and predictions about two or more sets of data.

This study used the experimental method. The experimental method is the

only method of research that can truly test hypothesis concerning cause-and-effect

relationships. The researchers had done research about the common problems

that the farmers encountered nowadays and formulated the statement of problem

and the proponents gathered information about the use of air flow systems in

agriculture. The researchers build two greenhouses with same dimensions then

the tomato seeds were planted in nursery pots after 10 days this would be

transferred inside the greenhouses for cultivation. Instrument used in the study are

record sheets for data gathering and anemometer for measurement of velocity.

Horizontal airflow system had a great effect in cultivating tomato crops in

terms of plant height and area of the leaves. The statistical method correlation
analysis would determine the significant relationship between airflow and tomato

crops in portable greenhouse using horizontal airflow system.

The following conclusions were drawn based on the objectives and the

summary of the findings. First is the use of horizontal airflow system in portable

greenhouse greatly affects the tomato crops in terms of plant height. in terms of

plant height, by means of the computed weighted mean of 64.83 mm, the tomato

crops on the portable greenhouse with Horizontal Airflow System grew 7.28%

more than the tomato crops in a portable greenhouse without Horizontal Air Flow

System. Second is by means of statistical treatment which is weighted mean,

standard deviation and one tailed t - test used in the study, the researchers

determined that there is a significant relationship between airflow and growth of

tomato crops in the portable greenhouse using horizontal airflow system valued

64.83 mm, 30.3210 mm, t – value of .9501 and p – value of .1745 respectively.

The recommendations for the study are based in the analysis, data

interpretation and findings. This includes the adjustment of the elevation to prevent

the contact of the crops and the top of the greenhouse, temperature as the factor

affecting growth of crops and use the quality of tomato fruit as the basis of growth.
