Scope This British Standard specifies requirements for round. square and rectanguler solld drawn copper tubes of high conductivity for electrical purposes. 2. References The titles of tho standards publications referred to in this, standard are listed on the inside back cover, 3. Information to be supplied by the purchaser ‘The purcheser shall state on his enquiry and order the {following information. (a} The chemical composition of the material (see clause 6). (b) The dimensions of the material (see 8.1). {c] The condition of the material where required (see clause 7). (6) Whether mechanical tests are required (see 9.1 und clause 10) (e} Whethor un electrical cesistivity test is required (see 9.2 and clause 11). (f) In the case of oxygen-free mater 103 and C110, whether a gassing or hydrogen embrittlement test Is required (see 9.2 and clause 12. (a) Whother a supplier's cartificate is racuired (see clause 14) (h) Whether itis the purchaser's intention to inspect the material at the supplier's works (see clause 15). (i) Mf material C110 is spectfivd, whether itis aso required to satisty the requirements of BS 3839 (soe clause 12). 4, Freedom from defects ‘Tubes shall be clean, smooth and free from harmful detects, 5, Manufacture ‘Tubes shall be tolid deawn and in no cose shall they be ra-drawn from used tubes. Unless otherwise ordered they shall be supplied in steaight lengths: the ends shall be cut loan and square with the axis of the tube. 6. Chemical composition ‘Tubes shall be manufactured from copper complying with jements of one of the Following British Standards id by the purchaser. BS 1036, matorist designated C101 BS 1037, material designated C102. BS 1861, material designated C103. BS 1954, material designated C110. Whan specified by the purchaser, material designated C110 shail also satis the raquirements of BS 3839, If ne British Standard is stipulated by tha purchasar, the supalier shall be at liberty to supply at his discretion ‘material complying with the requirements of any one of the above standards, ty 7. Condition and mechanical properties The material shall be supplied in one of the following conditions as specified by the purchaser and in secardance ‘with the mechanical properties specified in table 1. ‘Material in the anaealed condition. Round tubes shall be designated by the ‘outside diameter and wali thickness in millimatres. A list of referted sizes is given in table 2, Table 2, Preferred sizes of round tubes 18 15 8.1.2 Square and rectangular tubos. Where square or rectangular tubes are spucifiud these sholl be designated by: (6) in the case of square tubes, the outside dimension of fone side and! the thickness of the wall in millimetres; (b) in the cate of rectangular tubes, the outside dimen- slons of two adjoining sides together with the thickness Of the wall in millimetres, 8.2 Tolorances on round tubes 8.2.1. Ouiside oiameter. The moan outside dismater of round tybss shall ut vary from the specified outside diameter by mora than tho amount of the tolerances specified in table 3. Selection of test samples 9.1 Mechanical tests. Whea mechanical tests are specified by the purchaser, tubes of any one composition, siz, thickness and temper shall bz grouped in batches of 300 tubes or 1200 ky, whichever is thu graater mass, and the ‘purchaser or his representative shall take at random ane tube from wach batch and any remaining purt of a batch for testing, When the size of the order does not permit batching in the sbove quantities, one tube of each compositivn, size, thickness and tempur shall bo selected For testing, 9.2 Electrical rusistivity tost, When this testis sawcified by the purchaser, the selection of test samples andl ‘of tests to be carried out shalt be agreed between the supplier and the purchaser, 9.3 Gassing or hydrogen embrittlement test. Mechanical tasts 10.1 Tensite test. Gassing or hydrogen embrittlement test The gassing or hydrogon embrittlement tast if specified BY the purchaser shall be made on material C103 wnd C110 only.
