LITERATURE REVIEW

1. S Ayim Gyekye - International Journal of Occupational

Safety and 2005 - Taylor & Francis
A lot of attention has been focused on workers’ perceptions of workplace safety but
relatively little or no research has been done on the impact of job satisfaction on
safety climate. This study investigated this relationship. It also examined the
relationships between job satisfaction and workers’ compliance with safety
management policies and accident frequency. A positive association was found
between job satisfaction and safety climate. Workers who expressed more
satisfaction at their posts had positive perceptions of safety climate.
Correspondingly, they were more committed to safety management policies and
consequently registered a lower rate of accident involvement. The results were thus
consistent with the notion that workers’ positive perceptions of organisational
climate influence their perceptions of safety at the workplace. The findings, which
have implications in the work environment, are discussed.

2. Workers' Perceptions of Workplace Safety and Job
Satisfaction
 SA Gyekye - International journal of occupational
safety and 2006 - Taylor & Francis
This study investigated workers ‘perceptions of workplace safety in an African work
environment, specifically in Ghanaian work places. Workers’ safety perceptions
were examined with Hayes et al. ‘s. (1998) Work Safety Scale. Comparative
analyses were done between high- and low-accident groups, and t tests were
employed to test for differences of statistical significance. Relative to their
colleagues in the low-accident category, workers in the high-accident category
exhibited negative perceptions on safety. They had negative perceptions regarding
work safety, safety programmes, supervisors, and co-workers ‘contributions.
Besides, they expressed less job satisfaction and were less committed to safety
management policies. Perceptions regarding management’s attitude towards safety
between the 2 groups were not of statistical significance. The analyses provided an
explanation for the cause of a substantial portion of the high rate of industrial
accidents in Ghana’s work environment. Implications for safety management are
discussed

3. Impact of Work Environment on Performance of Employees in

Manufacturing Sector in India
 C Mathews, IK Khann - International journal of
science, 2016 – pdfs.semanticscholar.org
It has been observed that the workplace environment affects the performance of
employees. Employees are more than the most important asset for an organization,
they play pivotal role in current operational performance and future competitive
advantage. Employees spend major part of their life in the organization within which
they work. The main objective of this work is to find out the work done in respect of
relationship between workplace environment and productivity. The quality and
quantity of work generated by employees are influenced by the work environment
while poor environmental conditions can cause inefficient worker productivity as
well as reduce their job satisfaction. The work will attempt to describe some
elements of the workplace environment that can impact on employee productivity
like lighting, noise, colour, air quality and unsuitable furniture. Investigations
support that various factors in the workplace environment are responsible for the
enhancement of employee’s productivity. The purpose of this work is to identify the
elements, which can affect the performance level of employees in the manufacturing
sector in India. This work is expected to show that work environment has great
impact on the performance level of employees of manufacturing sector in India.

4. The relationships between OHS prevention costs, safety
performance, employee satisfaction and accident costs

 M Bayram, MC Ungan, K Ardıç - International

journal of …, 2017 - Taylor & Francis

Little is known about the costs of safety. A literature review conducted for this study
indicates there is a lack of survey-based research dealing with the effects of
occupational health and safety (OHS) prevention costs. To close this gap in the
literature, this study investigates the interwoven relationships between OHS
prevention costs, employee satisfaction, OHS performance and accident costs. Data
were collected from 159 OHS management system 18001-certified firms operating
in Turkey and analysed through structural equation modelling. The findings indicate
that OHS prevention costs have a significant positive effect on safety performance,
employee satisfaction and accident costs savings; employee satisfaction has a
significant positive effect on accident costs savings; and occupational safety
performance has a significant positive effect on employee satisfaction and accident
costs savings. Also, the results indicate that safety performance and employee
satisfaction leverage the relationship between prevention costs and accident costs.

HYPOTHESIS
Null Hypothesis(H0): Safety measurements does not impact the employee
satisfaction.

Alternative Hypothesis(H1): Safety measurements does impact the employee

satisfaction.

LIMITATIONS
 Sometimes organisation won’t reveal their information for the safety purpose
 Lack of information available.
 Work pressures of employees are leads to unclear information
 Employees response.

CONCLUSION
Satisfaction of employees is most important to the organisation to reach its goal.
When the employees need is fulfilled they will satisfy and contribute more than their
satisfaction. So organisation have to communicate with its employees regarding their
problems.
This study helps to the organisation to know about satisfaction of employees on
safety measures.
