Lisette’s Singing
Masterclass Setup Guide
This guide is for setting up your home studio in order to sing for Lisette’s Masterclass.

Internet
It’s very important to check your internet speed. Zoom needs 2.5mb/sec upload bandwidthat the
minimum. It’s recommended to have 2-4x the amount available for the most secure connection. I
recommend a minimum 10mb/sec for upload
! Go to http://speedtest.netto check your
speed.

Camera
We want everyone to look fairly similar in the shots and setup and Lisette will need to see most of
your body in order to help you. If you are using a phone, try to set the camera up at least
waist-height.

  2

Use books or tables or whatever you need to get the camera stable and waist height.

Audio
In order for you to sound the best possible, we will need you to test your audio before-hand. On
the computer and on phones, there is an option for “USEORIGINAL SOUND” We need to enable
this in order to get the best quality audio.

iPhone, iPad, Android, Chromebook

1. On the Zoom app, if you’re on the phone, click on Settings -> Meetings -> Use Original
Soundto enable the setting.

  3

Computer, PC, MAC

1. If you’re using Zoom from the computer, click on Zoom.US (or File) -> Settings (or
Preferences) -> Audio -> Advanced -> “Show in-meeting option to “Enable Original
Sound” from microphone.” Also, Disable echo cancellationand enable High fidelity music
mode.

2. Then, when you get in the meeting, you have to click the button in the top left corner of
your screen. You have to do this EVERY TIMEyou start Zoom. When you click the
button, it should say “Turn OFFOriginal Sound”.

3. If you have a computer and are planning to sing using external microphones, please make
sure that you have your gain set correctly. This way it won’t clip the sound on your loudest
notes! I generally shoot for -6dbin your level meter for your biggest notes.

  4

It’s very important to sound check yourself first before you join the masterclass. Test
record and listen. We will do our best, but it’s up to you to help us hear the best you!

Accompaniment
Use an external speaker to play the accompaniment in the background. It’s important to have the
speaker fairly loud, but not so loud that it doesn’t compete with your own sound on the recording.
Please test and replay the audio and video of yourself to check your levels.
Use the Appcompanistfor a good background track. Otherwise, you can find some orchestral
accompaniments here.

Lighting
Please make sure that you are
brightly lit, grab whatever lights in
the house you can and put them in
front of you (but not blocking you if
you can help it) It’s important that
we get a very good brightness in
order to see everything.
