In the 21st century – the era of modern technology, with the born of many devices that help

people in their own lives like automatic and electric car, smart house, hospitals with modern
equipment that can diagnosis and treat disease, the living standard of people from all over the
world has been enhanced significantly. As a result, life expectancy has become higher than the
past. According to a report WHO, the average life expectancy of the world rose from 66,5 in
2000 to 72 in 2019. As a matter of fact, when the life expectancy becomes higher, many people
hold a belief that retirement age should also be raised. So in my following speech, I will shed
some light on this opinion and give personal point of view as well.
On the one hand, there are some works that their workforce shouldn’t be replaced with younger
people. As a matter of fact, when people become older, they will have more experience in their
expertise because they have undergone many situations and known well in managing with stress.
Unlike old people, younger employees seems that the amount of experience they have is much
less than older people. Many people may say that nowadays, when the education in this century
becomes much better than in the past, consequently, young employees are much better than old
people. It is partly right because they may have better academic knowledge but they haven’t
undergone many difficult situations in real life, which can’t be taught at schools and universities.
For instance, job like surgery consultants in hospital may need old people because of their
knowledge. They may not become inappropriate in physically to do a surgery but with the
experience they have gained through many surgeries, they are able to find and give the best
solutions to the patient and help doctors a lot during surgery process.
