Topic 1: As life expectancy is higher, some people say that retirement age
should be raised accordingly.
What is your opinion? In the 21st century – the era of modern technology, with the born of many devices that help people in their own lives like automatic and electric car, smart house, hospitals with modern equipment that can diagnosis and treat disease, the living standard of people from all over the world has been enhanced significantly. As a result, life expectancy has become higher than the past. According to a report WHO, the average life expectancy of the world rose from 66,5 in 2000 to 72 in 2019. As a matter of fact, when the life expectancy becomes higher, many people hold a belief that retirement age should also be raised. So in my following speech, I will shed some light on this opinion and give personal point of view as well. On the one hand, there are some works that their workforce shouldn’t be replaced with younger people. As a matter of fact, when people become older, they will have more experience in their expertise because they have undergone many situations and known well in managing with stress. Unlike old people, younger employees seems that the amount of experience they have is much less than older people. Many people may say that nowadays, when the education in this century becomes much better than in the past, consequently, young employees are much better than old people. It is partly right because they may have better academic knowledge but they haven’t undergone many difficult situations in real life, which can’t be taught at schools and universities. For instance, job like surgery consultants in hospital may need old people because of their knowledge. They may not become inappropriate in physically to do a surgery but with the experience they have gained through many surgeries, they are able to find and give the best solutions to the patient and help doctors a lot during surgery process. On the other hand, I think that in spite of the rise in the in the life expectancy, there are some jobs that the workforce cannot be replaced by the old generation. First, blue-collar jobs are not appropriate to the old generations. When people become old their health condition will become worse and worse day by day. And when working in factories, it requires workers that they must meet the health needs that the company owners provide. And the Intensity of the work is very hard. So only these conditions of working blue-collar works have shown that these kinds of work are not suitable for the old generation. Second, old people can not do works involving technology like coder or web and software developers. In the era of technology, as the new generation has got used to technology since they were born, they are very familiar with technology and works involving it. And besides, Is very hard for the old people to get familiar to technology and it takes them so much time to learn it from the beginning. So that the young workforce in technological jobs can not be replaced by the old people. In conclusion, I think that there are only some jobs that can use the old generation, especially jobs need experience and meticulousness. And works that requires people health, strength and speed should not keep the retirement age like now. Topic 2: “A long life may not be good enough, but a good life is long enough” Discuss and give your own opinion At the turn of 21st century, with the betterment in people’s living quality, it is expected that the life span of people will be extended. There is a saying that: “A long life may not be good enough, but a good life is long enough”. Personally, I am totally in favour of this quote. To begin with, it is necessary to understand to true meaning hidden under this quote. By living our lives a fulfilling manner and living it well, whatever our time may be, it will have been long enough. The definition of “living well” will differ from person to person, and be influenced by values, associations, experiences, and culture. A lot of people pursue wealth and consider it as a priority in their life that leads to the lack of satisfaction and life fulfillment. Therefore, living well isn’t the same as living richly. It might be better to focus on the things which bring lasting satisfaction, and put our effort and energy there instead. As a result, your life will be much more meaningful and worth. It is also noticeable to state that along life doesn’t mean a good life. A number of examples can support this idea. As a matter of fact, many writers, song writers did not live long but had a great contribution on the art field of their country and receive a lot of respect from descendants generation. It doesn’t matter how long could lives be, if we put effort to the thing we want and try your best to achieve it, it is a long and meaningful life enough. So the question is, how can we live well? Try to pursue the kind of things you think will help you feel fulfilled. It is worth doing some charity work, helping the orphaned children with your warm heart. Try to figure out your passion and live to the fullest would make a satisfied and happy life. In conclusion, it is true that a long life may not be good enough, but a good life is long enough. So live your life well. Have few regrets, and have as much fun as you can stand. For in the end, we shall all eventually pass on. In the mean time, be well lived.
