ATMOSPHERIC

PRESSURE
What is atmospheric pressure?
Atmopheric pressure the force exerted on a
surface by the air above it as gravity pulls it to
Earth.
How do changes in atmospheric
pressure affect people
at high altitudes?
At high altitudes, oxygen molecules are further
apart because there is less pressure to “push”
them together. This effectively means there are
fewer oxygen molecules in the same volume of
air as we inhale. This means that our body gets
less oxygen therefore making it harder to
breathe.
How does atmospheric pressure change
with height
above sea level?
Atmospheric pressure decreases as the height of a
surface above ground level increases.
