ArcGIS Online Overview

Our ArcGIS subscriptions include access to the ArcGIS Online service, which allows us to
upload content to our organization’s shared online storage, easily create interactive maps to
present that information, enhance those interactive maps by building applications that
incorporate text and image content, and share those maps and apps with others through links
or by embedding in web pages. The service also includes additional tools and extensions.

How to Use ArcGIS Online
Access Your ArcGIS Online Account

 Log In: Visit https://www.arcgis.com/home/signin.html and enter your credentials. They are linked to your Skeo email
address, so if you can’t remember them, there are links to be reminded. If you have trouble getting in, email Kate.
 Learn: ArcGIS provides a great training and help area with overview and tutorials on all of these features.

Please Note: EPA has its own branded version of ArcGIS online, the EPA GeoPlatform. If you’re planning to develop maps for
EPA’s direct use on its website or elsewhere, you probably want to do all your development there and not under our account.

Navigate the ArcGIS Online Interface

The ArcGIS Online interface has a set of tabs at the top through which you can access a variety of resources.

 Gallery: This page showcases all of the content created within our organization. It currently contains maps Kate
created for an OUST proposal and Navajo maps created by Marcus.
 Map: Visit this tab to quickly create a new map. You can easily access online content, upload your own content, and
style interactive maps. Tutorials are built in to guide you through the process the first time.

 Scene: Webscenes allow you to present information in an interactive 3-D environment.

 Groups: Join or create groups to share data and maps with small groups of people. These groups can be private or
public.
 My Content: Manage and create new content, maps and apps here.

Share Your Online Content with Others

By default, content you add to ArcGIS Online is only accessible to you. Your maps, apps, and other items are not available to
others—for example, they do not appear in search results and aren't part of any group. You can also share content with
others:

 Your organization—Only members of your organization have access to your item.

 Groups you belong to—Sharing with specific groups restricts access to a smaller set of people.
 Everyone—Sharing with everyone makes your item public; anybody who has access to ArcGIS Online, including
anonymous users, can find and use it, and group owners can include it in their group content.

Important Note: It appears that you cannot provide a sharing link to specific unlicensed users without making your map public.
