Task 2.

Set Up for a Debate

This task is designed to indicate whether the students:


- understand the concept of the set up for debate
- are able to construct cases and set up for debate of given motions
- are able to perform 1-2-minute introduction speech for debate by using debate speech matrix
by integrating set up for debate

Instruction
- Please study the material on the construction of a set up for a debate. The material gives you
insights about the concept of debate set up which is fundamental for your stance.
- You should construct a debate set up for one of the following motions (choose one only):
1. This House Would (THW) Support Euthanasia
2. This House Believe that (THBT) Higher Education should be Free in Developing Countries
3. This House Believe That (THBT) School Uniform is Symbol of Oppression
4. This House Regrets (THR) the Rise of Influencers

- Record your debate set up. You may use portrait or landscape format.
- Your video should be within 1-2 minutes. Your video should be submitted through Google
Classroom.

- You’re required to mention 2-3 points for your arguments*, that support your stance, at the end
of your set up.
- You can use the speech matrix for persuasive/debate speech to help you put your idea in a good
structure. Download here.
- Reading text during the speech should be less than 50% of your entire speech. You need to
maintain your eye contact with your audience as part of your manner/style.
