THE BLENDED LEARNING

1. What is blended learning?

Blended learning, also known as hybrid teaching, blended learning or b-learning, is an

educational model that seeks to combine face-to-face teaching with technology-based remote
learning. It is a combination of different techniques and methods that promises further learning.

2. When did start?

Blended learning has been in classrooms since 1998, and currently serves approximately 1.3
million students in more than 40,000 classrooms. Then thanks in part to Sal Khan, founder of
Khan Academy, who serves more than ten million students per month in at least two hundred
countries with its huge library of instructional videos and interactive exercises, the idea of
blended learning is becoming commonplace.

3. What does blended learning mean?

Blended learning (also known as hybrid learning) is a method of teaching that integrates
technology and digital media with traditional instructor-led classroom activities, giving students
more flexibility to customize their learning experiences.

4. Parts of Blended Learning

It has three parts:

a. In Part through Online Learning.

Blended Learning is any formal education program, where students have the chance to take over
the time, place, path or pace.

b. In Part in a Supervised Brick-and-Mortar Location.

The students learn at least in part a supervised brick and mortar location away from home.

c. An Integrated Learning Experience.

It means that if a learner is Learning Peru history in a Blended way, the online and face to face
work to deliver and integrated course.

5. Models of Blended Learning

It has four models:

A. Rotation Model

 Station Rotation

 Lab Rotation

The second sub model of rotation is the lab rotation. This model resembles the station rotation
but expands on the campus facilities beyond a single classroom. The lab rotation model has
students moving from classrooms with traditional learning modalities to a computer lab
specifically designed to support online learning. In this sub model the teacher have the whole
group together transitioning from offline activities to online activities.

Example:

Innova schools become the first Peruvian schools network to offer Blink learning services to its
teachers and students. It is the largest network of schools in Peru, with 37,000 students learning
with Blended Learning methodology.

 The flipped Classroom

It is the thrid kind of Rotation model, and it is named because it flips the typical function of the
classroom on its head. Traditionally students listen to lecture and take test in class and they do
homework set at home but in flip teaching students study the topic by themselves.

 Individual Rotation

It is the fourth Rotation model. If this model were to wear a bumper sticker, it would be
‘‘Choose Your Modality because this model is a good choice when you have enough devices for
every students to use and what to use these to plan personalized less for each student. Besides,
students check out their individual rotation Schedule for the day.

B. Flex Model

This model provides the students a flexible learning environment, the teacher in this model acts
as a mentor and give equal importance in delivering the proper instruction to the students, Flex
model is a course or subject in which online learning is the backbone of student learning, even if
4

it directs students to offline activities at times. Students move on an individually customized,

fluid schedule among learning modalities.

C. A la Carte Model

A la Carte Model is a blended learning approach which lets learners take online course, it
provides a flexibility over their schedules and comfort on their own time. In this way a la carte
model the teacher of record course is the online teacher. This model is most commonly found at
the high school level, where students may choose to enroll in a course not currently offered by
their school, such as an Advanced Placement course or a unique language course.

D. Enriched Virtual Model

The Enriched Virtual model allows students to spend most of their time completing coursework
online remotely, supplemented by required in-person learning sessions with their teacher. While
online learning is fundamental to the Enriched Virtual model, it differs from full-time virtual
schools because face-to-face learning is a required component of the coursework, not optional
as it is in full-time virtual schools.
