Your Training Path

• The elements below represent your training path for your role as a case investigator / contact tracer. All boxes are clickable.
• You have been scheduled for two paid days to participate in a meet-and-greet session and complete this training specific to
your role as a case investigator / contact tracer. There are certain courses you must complete before your buddy shift. Follow
this training path to complete those courses.
• Information on when and how to complete additional, general AHS orientation elements is in the FAQ and at ahs.ca/newemployee.
Please do not use your time during these two orientation days to complete general AHS orientation – focus on the Training Path. These
two days are to help you prepare and be ready for your buddy shifts. Complete the Training Path before starting your AHS Orientation
Passport.
• Many links require log-in using your AHS credentials. If you need basic computer training, click Computer Basics in the top-right corner.

Computer Basics
Basic computer competency is a requirement for your work as a case
investigator/contact tracer.

The following links are not from AHS or a requirement; however, have been provided to
support any novice computer users. If you feel you would benefit from some basic
computer skills training, try the following resources:

• Using a PC (Windows 10)

• Using a PC (Windows 7)
• Working with Computers and Devices

Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer is the Alberta Health Services (AHS) standard browser.
All AHS computers have Internet Explorer.
If you are working on a personal computer, you can download Internet Explorer from Microsoft.

To find Internet Explorer on your computer, search for it in the taskbar (search may look different depending on
your version of Windows):

Once you have opened Internet Explorer for the first time, right-click on
the icon and click “Pin to Taskbar” for easy access in the future.

Learn how to make Internet Explorer your default browser.

Clearing your cache

Several training and access issues can be resolved by clearing your browser cache (website data that is
automatically saved when you first visit a website). For instructions on how to clear your browser cache, refer to
specific help documentation found online:
• Internet Explorer
• Microsoft Edge

Clearing the Cache requires re-starting the computer. Upon restarting your computer, ensure you log in to both
the computer and MyLearningLink with your own login credentials.

Buddy Shift
You are expected to complete the scheduling, privacy, communication, and case
investigation / contact tracing training listed in this training path prior to starting your
online buddy shift.

After you have completed your orientation training you will be paired with an
experienced case investigator/contact tracer for a virtual "Buddy Shift". During the buddy
shift, use the document below for self-assessment, and as a guide to identify areas of
strength and areas you need to work on.

Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity

Cultural competency training is vital to providing safe, sensitive, and appropriate care for Alberta’s
First Nations, Inuit and Metis populations. You are required to take all three parts of AHS’
Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity course (Our People, Our Culture, and Our Wellness). Find
the courses on MyLearningLink.

Start Part 1A - Our People during your orientation. The rest of the Indigenous Awareness and
Sensitivity courses do not need to be finished before your first shift. We recommend taking Part 1A
during orientation and continuing your learning during work shifts as time becomes available (e.g.,
when there is no longer time to start a new investigation call at the end of a shift).

The required courses are:

- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 1A - Our People
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 1B - Our People
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 1C - Our People
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 2A - Our Culture
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 2B - Our Culture
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 3A - Our Wellness
- Indigenous Awareness and Sensitivity - Part 3B - Our Wellness

To find these courses, search MyLearningLink for: indigenous

Computer Basics
Basic computer competency is a requirement for your work as a case
investigator/contact tracer.

The following links are not from AHS or a requirement; however, have been provided to
support any novice computer users. If you feel you would benefit from some basic
computer skills training, try the following resources:

• Using a PC (Windows 10)

• Using a PC (Windows 7)

Remote Access, MyApps, and other applications

You should have received a quick-start guide (Getting Started: IT Setup & Access for External
Contractors) from your company representative. Follow those steps closely to help you set up your
computer and network access.

Remote Access Smart Token

• At your personal email address you should have received an email from ‘AHS Remote Access/RSA Admin’ with a
subject line of “Your RSA SecurID Software Token.” Follow the instructions in that email.
• If you did not receive either your Alberta Health Services (AHS) login password, AHS email or the RSA SecurID
Software Token email, please contact your company representative.

Citrix
• Unlike your AHS colleagues, you will access applications, links, and other tools (including Netcare, CD/OM, the
CD/OM training environment, ACeRT SharePoint, and others) through Citrix/MyApps. For several of the links in this
training path and in the online learning courses, you will have to open the URL through Citrix/MyApps rather
than simply clicking the link. If you cannot open a link by clicking it, try opening it through Citrix/MyApps.
• Follow the instructions in the quick-start guide to download the Citrix Workspace App.
• We are aware of issues with regulated contractors accessing Netcare. Please reach out to your team lead for
assistance when Netcare access is required. Do not call Ian Martin, Shoppers Drug Mart or AHS IT support, we are
aware of the issue and working toward a solution.

Connect to AHS and test your access

• Try out your access to the various applications by going to: https://myapps.ahs.ca Bookmark this link.
• The login page for MyApps requires your user name, password, and the 8-digit PIN from RSA on your smartphone.
• Click on Applications to see all of the applications you have access to:

Install Skype for Business 2016

• Follow the steps in the quick-start guide to ensure you have the Skype for Business application on your personal
computer and log in using your AHS network ID/password and AHS email address.

These courses should be pre-populated and linked to your MyLearningLink profile. If you need to
search for them, search MyLearningLink for: indigenous

Scheduling and Payroll

• As of now, your pay and schedule are controlled and set by your hiring company (e.g., Shoppers Drug,
Ian Martin, etc.). Please contact them for questions as neither Alberta Health Services (AHS) Human
Resources nor your AHS educator or AHS manager will be able to answer scheduling or payroll
questions.
• For regulated health professionals hired as external contractors through Ian Martin, contact
support@ianmartin.com
• For regulated health professionals hired as external contractors through Shoppers Drug Mart,
contact Germain Breton (gbreton@shoppersdrugmart.ca)

• You may be asked to view and access your schedule through AHS’ Provincial Staffing schedule (called
