HISTORY OF EDUCATIONAL TECHNOLOGY
We commonly define technology as gadgets, instruments, machines etc. And most educators will defer
technology as computers (Muffoletto, 1994). The history of technology in education since 1920 place
emphasis on radio and television, with computer as an after sought. Throughout time our technology in
different field had gone evolve. In education, we are now easily accessible anytime with technology
advancement such us computers, laptops, tablets, cell phone and much more. In educational technology, it
focuses on process of applying tools for educational purposes.
Technology in education as Media and Audiovisual Communication is very useful in delivering
information as an alternative to lectures and books. Auidovisual Communication is a branch of educational
theory concerned with the design and use of messages controlling the learning process.
Technology in education as Instructional Materials emerge during 1960's and 1970's. It is a systematic
approach to designing, developing and delivering instruction. Technology in education is truly useful. It can
be use in Vocational training tools, it serves as practical means of teaching.
Technology in Computers and computer-based systems which helps both teacher and learners.
Through these, we can easily share and understand necessary informations. A computer-based systems can
be hardware or software. There are two types of software, system software such as Unix, AppleDos, Ms-Dos,
Windows95 ,etc. ; and application software such as word processing, spread sheets, database management,
graphics software and etc. On the other hand, hardware is something that we can touch and feel. Hardware
has input function like keyboard, mouse, scanner,etc. and output functions like monitor and printers. CPU or
Control Processing Unit, ALU or Arithmetic Logic Unit, and control unit which directs the activities in the
whole system. Computer has internal and external memory where we can save and store files, informations,
videos, etc.
There are three types of computer systems namely personal computers, mini and mainframe computers,
and super computers. Current educational systems such as standlone personal computers and network
stations from LAN'S to MAN's. Three kinds of cable for connecting LAN's: coaxial cable, twisted pair cable and
fiber optic cable. Current applications of educational technology systems is very useful in teaching and
learning process. Teacher can use these to make instructional materials like video presentation, graphic
organizer, etc. to teach effectively in most creative way. Meanwhile, students can make use of technologies
in making projects, tasks, research, presentations and much more.
Technology indeed brought many changes, we are almost now relying on it. But this also brought
negative effect. As a student and as a person we should know our limits in using various applications and
gadgets. We should be knowledgeable and responsible in using and sharing informations among others. It is
our responsibility to be secure and have privacy. Remember, our actions have consequences so good actions
and decisions tend to have positive result.
INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY

Information refers to the knowledge obtained from reading, investigation, study of research. There
are ways in transmitting information especially with the use of technology such as television, radio,
mobile phones, etc.Communication is the process of sharing knowledge from one individual to others
using symbols or words. Technology is the use of scientific knowledge, experiences and resources. It is
the product of our curiosity to satisfy our needs and wants.
ICT or information communication technology is widely used in different fields such as education,
banking, industry, and e-commerce. In banking, transactions are done by computers than manually. In
education, it promotes more interesting and interactive experiences than just depending on books and
written materials. In industry, it serve as new environment that promotes more production and profit
than depending on human labor. And in e-commerce which plays an important role in the economic
scene. During these times of pandemic, online business became very popular which also more reliable
and time-saving.
ICT in our daily lives is visible because we use different platforms to easily share and access
information. We use Messenger, Facebook, Instagram, Ms Teams etc. to connect and communicate for
fast sharing of knowledge and informations. Like we are using these times, we do online class and it is
necessary to study technology, it's functions and effects..We must be knowledgeable and ICT-literate to
maximize our potentials in order to give quality service.
