The Worlds Best Condiments

It is crazy to think that mustard was created before humans discovered the elements of

the periodic table. Ketchup and mustard are condiments that are used everyday for things such as

meat or potatoes or anything that can be eaten. Ketchup and mustard can be used separate but

also great when mixed together. Ketchup and mustard have many distinct differences looking at

how they are made, what they are made of and how it affects the human body.

To make ketchup its gonna take Tomatoes, salt, vinegar, and any other type of flavoring

that is wanted. Ketchup is made by smashing tomatoes with salt on top. After mashing let it cool

for two days then add the other spices and flavoring. (Allrecipes.com, Chef John). Mustard is

made up of mustard seeds, and vinegar, wine, or beer. Crushing up mustard seeds makes it into a

powder then mixing that powder with vinegar, wine, or beer. (Honest-food.net, Hank Shaw).

These two condiments are used for things like hot dogs, burgers, fries, corn dogs, and many more

food items that are enhanced by these sauces.

These two condiments can definitely affect your body in positive and negative ways if

you have to much. Ketchup can be unhealthy because of the ingredients that make it up. Many

brands make this with vinegar that has chemicals and pesticides in it which can cause things like

cancer. The tomato paste that is also used contains pesticides and chemicals that are not good for

the human body. Ketchup has no nutritional value but does contain things like Vitamin A that

helps things like the immune system. (Ntdv.com). Mustard can help your body in many ways.

The Mustard seed has been used for centuries to help lower blood sugar and help prevent from

disease and infections. Mustard seed was used in the ancient Egyptian times as a remedy to help

people that were sick with infections. Mustard has things in it that are anti-inflammatory, anti

fungal, anti bacterial, and are very rich in vitamins C, A, and K. (Healthline.com, Alina Petre)

Ketchup was invented in 1867 in china. Ketchup originally came from tomato paste then

people added spices and flavoring to turn it into ketchup. Heinz the most popular Ketchup had

also started to make ketchup in 1867. (Nationalgeograpic.com, Jasmine Wiggins). Mustard on

the other hand was invented in 1800 Bc. Mustard originated from Ancient Egypt. The ancient

Egyptians used it for medicinal use and for spices. Mustard traveled from Egypt, to Rome, then

to the Monks in northern France. The Monks then began to sell it and made a lot of income just

from the seed. (GsDunn.com)

These two condiments were invented in very different times and both were used for very

different things. It is crazy to think that mustard was made almost three thousand years ago. Even

though ketchup is not the healthiest people still love adding it to the food we eat in everyday life.

Both of the condiments are the most popular ones and the most used and most purchased ones in

the entire world.
