    This is chant used for counting backwards for an individual or a group.

    Have the children


    begin by placing the leaves on the branches of the tree. Use real or paper leaves. Start with
    5 leaves for younger children.

    Well I looked at the tree and the tree said to me-


    “Can you count the leaves on me as they fall”?
    So I looked at the tree and I said to the tree-
    “I will count the leaves on you as they fall”.

    There are 10 leaves (remove one. Place it on the


    ground under the tree)
    Now there are 9 (remove another)
    Now there are 8 (continue chanting and removing
    leaves down to zero)

    Then a BIG wind came and blew all the leaves


    away. (Blow the leaves away, then gather them up
    and play again or save until next time).
