Getting Started

My virtual instrument sample libraries use the SFZ format, and are designed to work
best withbasil Plogue's sforzando (or ARIA Player). sforzando is free to download for Mac or
Windows and functions as both standalone application and a VST/AU/RTAS/AXX plugin, which
can be used in most DAWs or notation software.

You can learn more and download sforzando here:

About Singing in the Shower

Thank you for downloading Singing in the Shower! I can assure you that your life will
never be the same, after using this sample library!

I was inspired to create this library after coming to the startling realization that no other
developer had ever succeeded, or even attempted, to build a virtual instrument that faithfully
captures the unique sonic qualities of one singing in the shower. This was a shock, especially
when you consider the countless professional singers who no doubt got their start in this
humble, tile-lined box, within the modern household. This needed to be rectified posthaste.

After years of research and development, the first recording session was held on
March 3, 2019, with a followup session the following week on March 10th. I stepped into the
shower myself and recorded everything from my immaculate singing voice to sniffs, sneezes,
burps, and much more (many of which were recorded in round robin, for maximum realism)! If
this wasn’t enough, I took things one step further and recorded impulse response samples.
These IR samples, can be loaded into supported convolution reverb plugins, to recreate the
bathroom space. This means that you can put all of your other virtual instruments and live
tracks in the bathroom as well!

I hope that this groundbreaking virtual instrument stirs the creativity of musicians and
developers alike and sets the standard for future bathroom-related sample libraries. Also…

How to Use

1) MIDI CC:

CC01= Expression
CC15= Attack
CC16= Release
CC20= Sampled Release

2) Expression: Applies to singing only. This volume control works independently from the
instrument's main volume (CC07) control, to help create phrasing. By default, the control is set
to 79%, or 100 (in MIDI speak).

3) Attack: Applies to singing only. By default, this control is set at 0% (0, in MIDI speak). A
higher value will give you a softer beginning to the sound.

4) Release: Applies to singing only. By default, this control is set at 0% (0, in MIDI speak). A
higher value will give you a softer end to the sound. You will probably want to turn off the
“Sampled Release” before using this control.

5) Sampled Release: Applies to singing only. This controls the volume of the natural reverb of
the bathroom. By default, the control is set to 100%, or 127 (in MIDI speak).

6) Curtain Sounds: Keys C2 and D2 feature the sound of the shower curtain being opened and
closed respectively. Sampled in round robin.

7) Water Sounds: Keys F2, G2, and G#2 control the various water sounds. Sampled in round
robin.

- F2: Tub (Tub off, on release).

- G2: Shower (Shower off, on release).
- G#2: Shower with movement (Shower off, on release).

Note: If the G#2 key is down when the G2 is released, the sound of the shower turning off will
fade out instead of playing the sound of the shower turning off. This is done to improve the
transition from G2 to G#2.

8) Singing: Range from B2-A#4. Sampled in round robin.

9) Ad-lib Singing: Range from C5-G5.

10) Whistling: Key B5.

11) Gargling: Range from D6-G6.

12) Random Sounds: Range from B6-E7. Sampled in round robin. Bonus sound on A1.

13) Voices: Keys G7, A7, and C8.

14) IR Samples: I recorded two impulse response samples, first using wooden boards and the
other with my hands. You can load either of this samples into a supported convolution reverb
plugin, to recreate the bathroom space. These IR samples are available in both there raw form
and a version where I applied a digital noise reduction filter.
