THESIS SYNOPSIS

Student Name: Alan Vincent Joseph Year: 2016 - 2021

MULTI-FUNCTIONAL SPORTS COMPLEX

OVERVIEW:

Sports in India – In a country of over a billion people, we only have a handful of champions. Many
neglected athletes quit sports. Many of them don’t get the recognition they deserve. The sporting
culture in India is very weak and sports as a career is still an unfamiliar thought. Despite the huge
population India is almost always at the bottom in the Olympic medal tally. This may be due to the
lack of resources and lack of proper affordable training, infrastructure and other supportive
government schemes. Sports-spirit and professionalism are lacking within the individuals of our
nation, which is so vital towards advancing a solid sports culture.

A multi-functional complex is one that contains structures or spaces that is equipped with facilities
which can be utilised for multiple purposes. Sport complexes and sport cities are means to

encourage the people in the locality to facilitate the growth of great sportspersons and also
promoting the mental and physical growth of people of the region. It creates a venue for national
and international sport events and encourages youngsters to take up sports as a profession. It also
has recreational benefits to the local population and help promote healthy living conditions. Hosting
such events will provide international recognition and global appreciation thereby fostering a sense
of cohesion between the sports culture and the people.

energy efficient architecture and also by integrating some revenue generating spaces to that

Olympics medal list with year and rank

In spite of being the 2nd most populous country in the world, India is not able to produce quality
players and our nation’s performance in Olympics is always poor. Winning medals add to the image
of India at a global level. Government claimed to spend RS. 46 cr, but only Rs. 6 cr spent for the
development of the athletes. Lack of facilities at grass-root level play their own role in this. Lack of
encouragement within families and society also play a role. People being hypocritical about our
sportspersons to win and yet the government and local people hinder their training.

This study aims in creating an advanced facility for sports in the country that would help spread the
sporting culture in the city. It will also serve as a stepping stone in raising the sporting standards of
the country. It also aims to support the underprivileged athletes come up by providing financial
support which will be funded by some revenue generating elements integrated into the project like a
public sports arena, cafes, sport tourism, etc. It also helps to create a venue to host national and
international sporting events and thereby receive global recognition.
