What is Pushkara Navamsha?

Hello Truth Seeker:

Greetings to you, yours and all that is around you,

Thank you for your A2A request, I am honored to receive.

Being on worldwide forum “Quora” it is my desire to help you - the seeker, it is my aparigraha
(selfless service).

In Western astrology there is “Portions of Fortune” aka Fortuna, similarly in Jyotish (Vedic
astrology) there is “Pushkara Navamsha”. Both have to do with “worldly success, health, career and
much more”.

Somehow, in Jyotish (Vedic astrology), the reference to “Pushkara Navamsha” was not been given
“all due respect” similar to “Mahendra Kuta” in Guna Milan or Marriage compatibility reporting
(see footnotes for details).

These two ultimate points or topics can give the “ultimate answer” that every human desires to
know (through Jyotish).

To do justice to Jyotish (Vedic astrology), these two points must be incorporated in the daily
practice of the Jyotishi (Vedic astrologer), these must be part of their standardized “modus
operandi”.

I am grateful to P. Seema to bring this extremely important topic/question to discussion, thank you
for the privilege to answer this question.

I am sure the reader of this answer may be wondering, why “these great points” of Jyotish (Vedic
astrology) have been “ignored” all these years? Well, that’s another matter… we can talk about it
later, let’s move on to know what is …

Pushkara Navamsha

I shall quote from Chapter 4 of the book Navamsha in Astrology by Chandulal S. Patel, ISBN-10:
817082186X and ISBN-13: 978-8170821861, published by MLBD; 2005 edition (2005) from page
30:

After reading some of author's papers on Navamsa an astrologer friend wrote him "Your paper is
comprehensive, useful and spendid. The paper would have been complete had you touched
Pushkaramsa which is important in fixing the Muhurtha of any auspicious activity". This induced
him to take up further studies when he came across Pushkara Navamsa in Vidyamadhiyam Part 1
page 30-31, wherein this Navamsa is defined. During the last fifty years he has come across it only
once in Vidyamadhviyam (Sarvasiddhih). No standard book has thrown any light on Pushkara
Navamsa's definition.

Pushkara Navamsa has two meanings depending on the context:

1. Pushkaramsa is a particular degree (one only) in each of the twelve signs. It is also known as
Pushkarabhaga, which is used for auspicious effects, when a Muhurtha, a birth or any such point is
to be considered.
2. Pushkaramsa also means Pushkara-Navamsa, a particular Navamsa (an arc of 3:20 degrees as
opposed to 1 degree) in a sign which is very auspicious.

Meaning:

In Mesha, Simha and Dhanus signs the 7th Navamsa (Tula) and the 9th Navamsa (Dhanus); in
Vribhasha, Kanya and Makara the 5th Navamsa (Vrishata) and the 3rd Navamsa (Meena); in
Mithuna, Thula and Kumbha signs, the 6th Navamsa (Meena) and the 8th Navamsa (Vrishabha) and
in Kataka, Vrishchika and Meena signs the 1st Navamsa (Kataka) and the 3rd Navamsa (Kanya) are
called Pushkara Navamsa.

Thus:

The image below shows the placement of Pushkara Navamsa in the heavens:
The outer circle of the disc indicates Navamsas, marked numerically.
The third circle shows constellations or nakshatras.
Signs and navamsas are marked numerically from 1 to 12, in anticlockwise manner.
All Pushkar Navamsas of the zodiac are marked with a black dot, below the navamsa signs.

Note: Out of the total 108 Nakshatra or quarters, 24 are considered "Pushkara Navamsha” these are
highly fortunate. Each Rashi contains two Pushkara Navamsha ruled by Moon, Venus, Mercury and
Jupiter – all natural benefics. Of the 24 Pushyakaraka Navamsha, 3 are further strengthened,
because they are Vargottamsa.

Is Pushkara Navamsha or Bhaga mentioned in any “authoritative Jyotish scripture”? Yes, they are:

Pushkara Bhaga

Pushkara Bhagas are specific degrees where planets become auspicious to do good. The exact
degree becomes very powerful agent for being positive, whereas the Navamsha is still powerful but
not as intense as the degree.

Pushkar Navamsa in Gochara (transit astrology): The following has been noted:

Beneficial transits through the signs/houses of the rasi chart become exceedingly beneficial
during the times when such planets move through Pushkara Navamsas.
Similarly, effects of malefic transits such as Shani Ashtama, or Sade-Sati, will be modified during
times of their transits in Pushkara Navamsas.
Of special importance are the transits of dasa/bhukti lords through beneficial Navamsas and
especially Pushkara Navamsas.

To make Jyotish a complete tool for the benefit of humanity, it is the duty of the modern Jyotishi
(Vedic astrologer) to incorporate the two most important (of course there are many) topics in his
daily practice, namely Mahendra Kuta and Pushkara Navamsa.

It’s about time, Jyotish (Vedic Astrology) is given that Renaissance, simply put “rebirth” or
“reawakening.” for the benefit of the Truth Seeker.

This is my opinion, trust it helps and inspire you in your quest to know.

Enjoy your quest… explore, educate, experience and enlighten.
