Character Development TASK C:

Music playlist; representing the

character of “The Eritrean Girl.”
In the playlist to represent “The Eritrean Girl’s”
character and personality as well as her subtext
behind her monologue.
I wanted to ensure that I included two aspects of
her personality such as her original Eritrean culture
and the music that is prominent or traditional
there. The second aspect of her personality, the
fact that she has entered a new society and English
culture could be represented by some pop music
on the UK charts. This modern music will also show
her age and youthfulness.

This is a modern song released in January 2021 by
pop artist Millen Hailu, sung in one of the native
 languages of Eritrea; Tigrinya, Tigre, and
Dahlik.

This song like the others is sung by a young female
pop artist sung in the native language of Eritrea, this
song has an independent and uplifting tone which the
character of “The Eritrean Girl” has an element of.
She is independent in travelling by herself to England
and living here alone she is also smart, kind and has
self-belief which is what this song seems to
communicate.

This is sung by a young man, it is sung passionately and
the music is slightly upbeat and positive, which I think
reflects “The Eritrean Girl’s” positive mindset, to survive
and make a life for herself in England.

This song is sung by a young man and the music

video and music in the song convey a sense of
worship, gratefulness and appraisal. This could
reflect “The Eritrean Girl’s” character because she is
grateful that she managed to travel to England
safely and defeat the obstacles that were presented
to her. It is also celebratory of her culture which
shows her missing her homeland.

This was sung by a young female pop artist the music
video shows a sad music video, this song seems quite
emotional despite the fact that the lyrics are
unidentifiable to me, as someone who doesn’t speak
the native language.

This song is currently in the UK charts it is sung by Anne-
Marie and KSI who are both based in London and pop
artists. The hostel is based in London and this is a fairly
urban, modern song which fits “The Eritrean Girl’s”
location and age category.

This is song is also in the UK Top Charts, it is a song
which is quite sad, and self- reflecting which mirrors
“The Eritrean Girl’s” emotions in this monologue
where she is reminiscing on her past and feeling
slightly homesick perhaps.

This song is immensely emotional and the singer sings
about feeling alone and desperate, which
communicates “The Eritrean Girl’s” internal emotive
forces of feeling isolated and scared.
