CONSTITUTION

NAME
The name of the organisation is Olive Academy.

AIM
As a supplementary school, our aim is to focus on encouraging and developing knowledge
and skills in order to promote educational achievements, self confidence and instil a drive
towards attaining higher aspirations.

OBJECTIVES
i. Provide access to extracurricular educational support in the form of literacy,
numeracy, sports and citizenship classes, run by qualified professionals. And to
also provide teaching in culture, heritage and language.
ii. Enhance academic achievement in children and young people with specific
emphasis on BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) communities since research
shows them to underachieve in comparison to the general population.
iii. Develop positive attitudes to learning, help improve attendance at mainstream
schools and improve behaviour and attainment targets
iv. Have a positive impact on mainstream schooling and instil motivation for further
education
v. Encourage parental involvement and participation
vi. Form links with mainstream schools
vii. Help build relationships and support networks
viii. Improve confidence and reinforce cultural identity as part of a multicultural
community/ society thus promoting self-esteem and positive identity
reinforcement.

Through the above objectives, we aim to enhance communication skills, encourage


effective working with peers, improve behaviour and social skills, develop a more positive
individual self-view, improve confidence and self esteem, instil greater motivation and
interest in learning, recognise each child’s potential and give encouragement to fulfil that
potential, promote higher aspirations and increased attainment, and promote positive
teacher-parent relationships.

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
The organisation consists of a Management Committee consisting of the following
positions: Head Teacher, Deputy Head teacher, Secretary, Treasurer, Fundraising lead,
Web manager, Community and publicity lead, Teacher trainer and Catering volunteer.

POWERS
In furtherance of the aims and objectives the organisation shall have the following
powers:
i. To raise funds for the achievement of the above aims and objectives and to invite
and receive contributions from any person by the way of subscriptions, donations
or otherwise, provided that the organisation shall not undertake any permanent
trading activities in raising funds.

ii. To buy, take on lease, or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any property
necessary for the achievement of the aims and objectives and to maintain and
equip it for use.
iii. To co-operate with other charities, voluntary bodies and statutory authorities
operating in furtherance of the aims and objectives or of similar charitable purpose
and to exchange information and advice with them.
iv. To do all such other lawful things as are necessary for the achievement of the
objectives.

MEETINGS
Annual Meeting
An annual meeting is held at the end of the school year and is open to the Management
Committee, Teachers and Support Assistants within 28 days notice being so given.
Notification is given by in writing. Each annual meeting will have information on the
previous year’s performance and financial report by the Treasurer. There shall be a
quorum of at least one third of the management committee at the annual meeting.
Each matter shall be determined by a vote and each attending person has one vote.
General Meetings
A general meeting is held prior to the beginning of each school term and is open to the
Management Committee, Teachers and Support Assistants within 14 days notice being so
given. Notification is given by in writing.
Special Meetings
Special meetings can be held at any time by the Core Management Committee members
with the same notice period as the General meeting.
Ordinary Meetings
Ordinary meetings shall be held by the Head Teacher or Coordinator as and when
necessary.

ADMISSIONS
i. The organisation will allow admission of all children and young people over the age
of seven (irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity or gender), depending on the level
of support required (e.g. class type) and spaces available.
ii. Parents/ guardians will fill out admissions forms.
iii. The learner will pay tuition fees according to the organisations regulations.
iv. The learner will follow the code of conduct set by the organisation.

FINANCE
The accounts and bookkeeping are to be performed by the Treasurer. All bank books and
the invoices are to be kept by him/her for safe keeping. The treasurer will produce and
submit a written financial report at the annual meetings and at special meetings if
requested. The Headteacher will act as second signatory on any outgoing monies.
All funds received or other donations are to be spent on:
i. The furtherance of the aims and objectives.
ii. Remuneration and out of pocket expenses to any member of the organisation for
services rendered in furtherance of its aims and objectives.

INSURANCE
The organisation will be covered by public liability insurance and the policy will be
renewed each year.

POLICIES
i. The organisation will follow its own Health and Safety policy
and that of the building in which the organisation is based.
ii. The organisation will follow Leicestershire County Council
Child protection Policy and the Equal Opportunities
Statement.
iii. The organisation will follow its own Safeguarding Children
policy and its CRB policy.

DISSOLUTION
In the event of ‘Olive AcademySupplementary School’ being dissolved, the assets or funds
of the organisation shall be transferred to another charitable organisation.
A resolution passed by 90% of those present and voting in a Special meeting shall be
necessary to dissolve the organisation.

ALTERATION TO THE CONSTITUTION


A resolution for the amendment of the constitution must be received by the Coordinator
or Head teacher of the organisation at least 21 days before the meeting at which the
resolution shall be brought forward. At least 14 days notice of such a meeting must be
given to the Management Committee and must include notice of the alteration proposed.
