The effect of elevated language upon audience is not persuasion but transport.

Discuss with
reference to ‘On the Sublime’ by Long Ginus
In order to discuss this term first we have to look for what is elevated language?. Hence it is thus
the sort of language that is typically more formal than the language being spoken. Literally it is
used for writing and at some professional meeting. It strongly depicts your knowledge and
understanding of a specific language.
Now we need to see the effect of elevated language to sort out our statement. Thereby, languages
though of any time do not limit our ability to perceive the world or to think about the world but
these focus upon perception, attention and thought on specific aspects of the world. So different
languages focus the attention of their speakers in their own different way at different aspects of
the world. Talking about effect then one of the effect of elevated language upon audience is not
persuasion but transport.
Talking about this different authors have proved this point differently in their own basic way but
all these include Sublime in their niche. Sublime in literature refers to use of language and
description that excites thoughts and emotions beyond some ordinary experience. It is
nonetheless to say that it is mostly interlinked with grandeur but it may also refer to grotesque or
other extraordinary experiences that merge an individual beyond his own self.
Effect of elevated language upon audience is not persuasion but transport
With reference to On the Sublime by Longinus. The writer has proved his point by depicting
three factors
 Sublimity
 Sources
 Impediments
 Longinus theory
 Effect of elevated language

Sublimity
It takes its start from sublime. It is just the presentation of facts but on very right moment. It thus
focuses upon suddenness and certainty. It also displays the power of orator in its plenitude
Sources ( Sublimity)
There are five sources
 1.Capacity for possessing great thoughts
 2. Motion that comes from inspiration and strong passion
 3.Figures of speech and how to establish them.
 4.Noble diction
 5.Effect of dignity
Impediments
It has following three impediments
 1. Affection
 2. Cold pedantry
 3. Sentimentality
Longinus theory ( of Sublime/Sublimity)
It basically deep focuses upon Sublimity. In accordance with this theory sublimity is regarded as
a element. It focuses more on the individual work rather on sum of all. It also considers sublimity
as an important part of illumination. In accordance with it sublimation is not conceived by
arguments but merely by illumination. Hence it considers it as a niche. In the light of this
literature is a vision and effect of literature is same like music. It just make us full of spirit and
enthusiasm like some powerful inspiring music grants. It also gives us idea about true sublime,
thereby considering true sublime as an uplifting effect. The sort of effect that makes us close to
new experiences and perception. It makes us spell bound by some kind of music. This effect is
regarded as music and response to it will be judged by our inner intuitions.
Effect of elevated language upon audience
This significant fact is depicted by our way of responding to persuasions. At every time we
impose some speech it leaves our effect in the way we respond to persuasions and gratification.
Though we can have an innate behaviour to control our persuasions but it is the power of
sublime that matters. It can grant us power to present our views quite effeciently and can reign
out to be superficial to any hearer that hears our voice
